How can you defend the X1's business descisions?

How do any of the new 'features' such as 'almost always online' and 'drm up your ass' benefit YOU, the consumer? what good is it to defend something that actively hurts you? you know, a few years ago it was piracy that was killing the games industry, now that that scapegoat doesn't work we have this load of bollocks known as always online and no-used-games.

  • Microsoft is a company and as a business they need to make a profit. Their focus is on their business and not consumer rights. Their pretty much competing with the television industry now as their console is built to replace consumers cable boxes.

    • I buy my games new. I find it honorable. Plus, my friends and I only buy a few games a year, all on launch day, new, and at the same time. We never need to "share." I welcome used game blocking. I just want everything tied to my account like Steam or Blizzard. I hate always on connection requirements, though.

      • They don't benefit me, but there is an absence of them affecting me if I buy the X1. So, these issues are irrelevant to me.

      • 10 years from now the disk will be long gone. M$ is looking towards the future and I respect it. We will all be for Ed to stop complaining sooner then you think. Do you buy CD's anymore? Most likely not and this is the way we are headed. Hell I can't stand going to buy a new game. Just let me DL it!

        • Are you stupid?? All of these "policies" are built in to the software an can be updated and removed in one system update so if it doesn't work out Microsoft are clever enough to realise their mistakes and work on them and it is still early days its easy to change in the time the console has until launch!!

          • Tej you're a troll. Might as well take your cell phone back because it is constantly connected. I mean what happens when service goes down? What happens when they shut down 3G or 4g service? Then you bought a brick. What happens when the cell company tracks your location and shares it with the government? Oh take your TV back too because of the possibility of a power outage. Let's see how extreme we can make our complaints, shall we. PS If you knew about copyright laws you would realize that used game retail stores are in violation of them.
what good is it to defend something that actively hurts you?
It doesn't really hurt me in any way. If you weren't a child, and had some perspective in life, you'd realise it doesn't really hurt you either.

Exactly how is it hurting me, Tej-troll? I don't really see the issue with what Microsoft is doing aside from people like you falling into knee-jerk, rampant paranoia over the slightest thing. My cell phone doesn't cause me any harm, and it tracks me far more than any Xbox One DRM could ever do. My smart phone is constantly connected to various internet servers, even while I'm sleeping. But no one bitches and pisses themselves over that. Besides, did you ever stop to think that stores like Gamestop, as useful as they might be, are actually massive violations of federal and international copyright laws? You're a tool. You're a dumb, panicky herd animal and are bringing the collective intelligence of the species to a new low by refusing to think about this logically and use the brain that the Gods gave you. For anything else, I agree with what's below.
Alright, what I'm going to say here will be highly controversial among console gamers. Mircrosoft is taking the first step towards pushing the console gaming industry forward. What they're doing will actually end up benefiting consumers in the long run. Believe it or not the developers and publishers aren't the ones "hurting" the console gaming industry with things such as project $10. Corporations such as GameStop and Game are. Used game sales only hurt the developers and publishers. When the used game market is eliminated (see PC) the price of games actually end up going down and massive sales happen frequently. Why? Because developers and publishers no longer have to plan around the fact that a large portion of the people using their services didn't actually pay for them. They're getting the money for every game sold and because of this they can be more consumer friendly. The only reason that you don't see digital games being cheaper than physical games at the moment is because companies like GameStop are telling them that they won't stock their game if the digital version is cheaper than the physical one. Why? Because GameStop can't resell a digital copy and make 100% of the money off of it. You want to know why companies like Game and GameStop are able to be the parasitic bully? Because you the consumer enable them too every time you let them push a used copy on you. Total Biscuit can explain my position more thoroughly and eloquently than I can at this hour. No I'm not a parrot. Back on Bungie.old I talked about this quit a bit when the whole project $10 controversy came around.
• Are you ignorant or just plain dumb? If you look at how the xboxone works, you only need the disc once and thats to install it, after that you dont need it all your games get transferred to your cloud. thats why you need the internet, they arnt trying to watching you, they are trying to make gaming more convenient for you the gamer. also the whole trade in thing and lending games its all a because of the fact that you install the game and then done if they didnt do this theoretically one person could buy the game pass it out for free and the whole world could get the game for free. all they are trying to do is to make sure that you bought the game. know what you're talking about before post. -love poisonous tofu

                    • I personally don't have a problem with the policies of the Xbox One. My 360 is always connected to the internet, and I never buy used games. I would like to know what games will be available for launch, since that will determine whether or not I'll buy it sooner rather than later.

                          • I don't care about used games. Always-online is actually a plus because it makes the Cloud way more useful. Also, having games on demand, day 1, is a huge plus.

                          • I think that in terms of business decisions they screwed up and now they have the chance to fix it at E3 and later on. If they do there fine again. None of the crap affects me but I get why people are pissed.
