Game of Thrones controversy *WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS*

Again. Turn back now if you either havn't watched the newest episode or have not read the books. Apologies. Havn't made a thread on this acount in over a year. Still getting to grips with this new Forum BS. Too gory even for Game of Thrones? Fans left 'sickened' by bloodshed in what is being touted as one of most gruesome scenes in TV history" By the infamously obnoxious Daily Mail Apparently people didnt get the message when people said the Red Wedding was screwed up and so the resulting butthurt has been causing quite a stir. What do you savages think? Did they cross the line?

  • The fact that this caused controversy while Spartacus had several episodes equal to the RW that didn't cause much controversy really says a lot.

    • I thought they did a great job of it. Though I don't remember Robbs wife getting killed at the Red Wedding, and it was quite disturbing to watch. But it was suitable for the occasion.

      • Wow. People are getting upset about a show based on Medieval Europe being gruesome? It wasn't even that bad; no one got molested, no one got tortured... hell, their make-up didn't even get smeared. All in all, I think it's too tame of a depiction.

      • I don't know why people are making such a big deal about this. Everyone is acting like it's the most disturbing thing ever shown on tv. There has been plenty of worse stuff than this. Does anyone remember that X-Files episode where those inbred brothers dig their newborn baby out of their quadruple amputee mom with a fork and scissors? And then they bury it alive in a baseball field? That was the X-Files, which isn't a very graphic show. But I would say even that is more disturbing than some people getting their throats cut. And Game of Thrones was violent from the start. So why is it shocking for fans of the show to see some people get killed with knives and arrows?

      • It was completely unexpected for me, but no, I didn't find it to be inexcusable. Actually, it seemed like the ordinary kind of "messed up" as one could expect from the series, so truthfully, I was only shocked for a moment or so. I really should read the novels, though.

Violence wise there is nothing there really. Crossbows and throatcutting? meh. The real shock for people came from watching their favourite characters for 3+ years get torn apart by Filch. I didn't see it coming, and I'm a bit :s since I was catching up in the books towards storm of swords. But after the whole WTF No! I just want to see what happens next. Although killing his wife was a bit... Pushing it imo changing the books to make it more shocking at the wedding...

            • Surprised no one said "Lol Daily Mail" yet since the last time i was here we didn't hold them in a high regard around here... Had to watch the episode twice to have the scene sink in though.

People being stabbed, shot with crossbow bolts, and getting their throats slit? We've obviously never seen anything like this before. And in a show where people were being beheaded in the first scene of the entire show? Totally uncalled for. There should be a petition never to air this episode again until the ending is fixed. In all seriousness, I thought the violence made it alot more emotional. You could really feel it more. It's kind of sad that the main character that we root for in the war, and one of my favorite characters personally, got killed off so early. Also now there will never be any closure between Catelyn and Jon Snow.

            • Don't see how people can possibly be bothered by that scene. It was supposed to be shocking. Betrayal generally is. There are much gorier things that have aired on TV anyway. Though it's daily mail so meh.

            • There wasn't even that much gore. And no, they didn't cross the line, it was supposed to be an emotional scene.

            • As if it's something new to television shows, excessive blood and gore take place in movies with ease. Watching a decapitation happen should be nothing new, considering movies and other relative media outlets show just as much. Sheezus..

                • no the didnt cross the line, it was an emotional scene and the gore was justified. It isnt like the show is public access, or they dont warn of the violence.
