When did Bungie.net become Reddit?

Okay, so admittedly I haven't been on this site in a couple of years. But goddamn. Are any other oldfags still lurking around able to explain just what the hell happened here? My impression seems to be that Bungie are so psyched for Destiny they've swept Halo under the rug. Now, fair enough, Destiny is going to be awesome. But seriously, the forums have practically disappeared, and a slightly less popular version of Reddit seems to have taken its place. This is not a thread for you kids to rage at me and declare your undying love for Bungie, whose virgin honour you will defend to your last dying breath. I simply want to know if there is any legitimate reason why this site has changed so drastically and, in my opinion, to such a worse state of affairs.

I'm not talking technically, I'm talking in terms of interaction. At each Halo game's height, the forums were just basically white noise. You make a topic, and it was already on page 3 of the forums. Thousands upon thousands of posts, with people saying the same things but not really communicating. We decided that we had to stop pretending that the "standard way" of doing forums would be okay for a game of Destiny's scale. Remember, this web site is designed for a game that you really don't know anything about yet. Anyway, that's the best way of describing why this site is designed as it is. It may seem strange right now, but when traffic jumps up, it will matter. We are aware it takes getting used to, but we didn't do it on a whim, and we're constantly watching various metrics and will adjust things accordingly (as you have already seen). But so far, we feel that our decisions have been generally on target with our goals. The biggest missing piece of the puzzle not related to the game is group functionality, but we'll get to that.
And by the way, most of the community is older than you think ;-)
