It could be harmful if it's too much. At the same time it shouldn't exactly feel comfortable, like you should know something's there. Start small and work your way up gradually.

  • I was also wondering if wearing a comfortable amount over a short span of time (a hour or two) could still compress your spine or cause damage?

  • No. Stick with under ten pounds to start. I know a guy who wore a 25 pound pack 12 hours a day on a six month hike, and he's fine. Just don't go overboard.

  • The smallest weight I have is a 30lb dumb bell. If I wore 80lbs just to see what it felt like and I could do jump squats with it. If I wore 30lbs and started with walking then jogging do you think it would matter? Btw I'm 6'1 and ~200lbs give or take a few.
