They mentioned that when designing Reach they had a gamemode of something like 6v6 space battles made, but dropped it because they thought it didn't fit with the typical feel of Halo. Perhaps that was also testing for a Destiny multiplayer mode as well? In general though, I'd love to see a firefight-esque mode that's like it is in the Reach campaign of tougher and larger, more powerful enemy ships spawning in over time, and players have to work together to not die or defend and objective or something. That, as well as that I'd love to see clans get their own giant ships to store their personal ships in that can be taken into battle with other clans with the members either piloting their own ships, or controlling guns on the main clan ship, with the objective to win to destroy all enemy ships and to hit the critical points of the enemy clan ship to take it down. Preferably though this would only be for aesthetic reasons, and all the ships will still be fully functioning after the battle is over. As for simply player versus player battles in general, I'd love to see both space and planet atmosphere dogfighting, and think there should be two different versions of it: one where you get only one life and have to kill all the enemy players, and another where you get unlimited lives, but are aiming to ge the most kills like a typical deathmatch.

I believe you but was this mentioned in some making of ViDoc or special edition content? That is, is there any footage or screenshots of this anywhere? It'd be interesting to see and would be a great addition to the OP.

Sadly no screenshots or anything of the sort. All I can tell you is that I'm fairly sure it was mentioned in a BWU at some point before Bungie went dark. I can't recall if it was before or after Reach released, but I'm tempted to say it was before. If you're willing to search for it, the news archive over at halo.bungie.net probably has it somewhere.

  • Thanks for the clarification... So the range is after ODST released until the end of the old b.net, if indeed it was in a BWU, and not a Bungie podcast or something? ...I think I'll leave the digging to MoonDawg, if they want to bite. I mean, that's a lot of reading/listening just to reinforce someone else's theory..

I feel like it wasn't during a podcast, because I listened to only maybe one or two of them at most during that period (only have one downloaded on my computer from the end of march 2010, but I could have sworn I listened to more than just it. That could just be due to the details escaping me though), and I swear I read it rather than heard it, but it was such a while back and the fact itself such a quick, small mentioning in that one location, that it's hard to remember specifics with complete certainty. Sorry I can't be of much help :/ All I can really say with complete certainty is that I do remember it was said that Bungie had experimented with the idea in Reach for multiplayer, but cut it because it didn't fit with the typical Halo multiplayer experience. The specifics of where it was said, when it was said, and the specifics of the mode itself elude me however. I do also remember though at one point that Bungie also talked about how they had a mission in Reach where you got to pilot a scarab around the city, had a rig set up perfectly and everything, and yet they cut it anyways. Perhaps these two things are in the same update, possibly one focused on the things that were cut from Reach? I really don't know for certain at this point, so I'm just throwing whatever comes to mind out there to see if it helps.

  • Maybe the firefight mode will be in the form of them protecting the city wall

  • Man that sounds fantastic. However, we may be hoping for too much for this one. But there's always Destiny 2. ;)
