Because the Iraq War is already a massive failure, and soon the Afghanistan War will have accomplished very little.
Didn't 2 times as many Americans die in these wars (read: soldier deaths, doesn't include contractors)?
The only effective way to fight terrorism is through a strong, but reasonably limited intelligence section. One that can respond to individual threats, rather than invade countries for little reason.
That, and the fact that the US policy since the 1980's is largely responsible for a lot of this nonsense. That, and the US's relationship with Israel, which I daresay is based on little reasoning and/or circular logic.

Edited by Closed Account: 5/22/2013 8:38:54 AMThe Afganistan war resulted in dismantling/heavy crippling of Al Qaeda. That's a fairly large accomplishment. Actually it's the biggest accomplishment. And let me be clear, I'm aware that it was initially a part of the OEF, however I feel the intel in regards to Al Qaeda is pretty important in this regards. Also, I don't see the logic in responding to individual threts as opposed to eliminating the source of terrorism, which is linked to many networks in the Middle East. The war has resulted in a lot of intel, which I personally find a lot more valuable than the elimination of insurgents. But they're not mutually exclusive. To each their own.

The country itself is not the threat, that is the issue. At best, you drove out the Taliban, and created many more terrorist organizations + recruits.

The country was home to massive Al Qaeda networks and the Taliban. We weren't fighting the state itself, just the belligerents in the state. Also terrorism has been in a huge decline. I'm not denying that they don't like us though.
