The reasoning behind game choice in the Xbox One event.

Some spectators of the Xbox One event may be asking, "why did they waste my time with that Fifa and Madden crap?" Some may even be declaring those games irrelevant. The even more ignorant may even be gawking at how crappy and insignificant the Call of Duty franchise is. What these people do not realize, however, is the market for said games. Check out the most recent Xbox Live Activity blog post by Major Nelson. Where do ancestors of the games shown today fall in this list? Call of Duty: Ghosts - Refer to Black Ops 2 (1st), MW3 (4th), Black Ops (8) Fifa 14 - Refer to Fifa 13 (3rd) NBA Live 14 - Refer to NBA 2k13 (5th) Madden 25 - Refer to Madden 13 (17th) Forza 5 - Refer to Forza 4 (20th) The games shown today, especially the sports games, are some of the most popular games being played right now on Xbox Live. Call of Duty? Not just the most popular game right now in Black Ops 2, but has 1-and-a-half year old game sitting 4th and a 2-and-a-half year old game sitting 8th. Forza? Arguably held a monopoly in the sports-genre for the 360 it was that good, but that will end when an equally impressive One exclusive launches alongside it, PGR5. The folks at Microsoft chose the games they did for their reveal for a reason. They excellently appealed to a core demographic of their fan base and are confident enough to keep the floodgates of gaming information slightly closed until E3.
