Got new job as an Accounting Intern...

So I applied and got a job as an Accounting Intern, which is awesome and all, has great pay, will be beneficial for me because this is my first job in the field. Before that, my only job experience is bag boy and donut maker at Safeway, for 5 years. I am only a Junior in college aiming for an Accounting degree, however, I switched my major before Sophomore year and only took Intro to Financial Accounting and Intro to Managerial Accounting. I know some stuff about journal entries since I did a little of that in high school but other than that, I have no experience in accounting or clerical work. Today was my first day (orientation) but they had me do job shadowing and they tell me I will be doing filing and data entry tomorrow morning next day. I think they're expecting me to already have done this before, which I didn't. I mean, I did tell them in the interview about what classes I took and what I can do. I am great with Excel and stuff. Meh, maybe what I am trying to get at here is whether Accounting Interns are expected to do much at all or not?

  • I'm not sure we have anyone here you can answer that question. You might try Googleing "Accounting Internship Stories" or something.
