Could the Traveler house a W'rkncacnter/Dreaming God?

Alright, we know that some THING hit us, knocked us down, and tried to stamp us out, but the traveler sacrificed itself to save us. Could the thing that hit us be the same sort of eldritch abomination that served as the main antagonist of Marathon Infinity and Pathways Into Darkness? could the traveler be a Jjaro construct meant to imprison it? Could our enemies be the monsters imagined by a dormant god while it was still trying to consume all? Could the monster be close to escaping the Traveler's imprisonment? Can our Guardians succeed in defeating it, as the Security Officer and Durandal/Thoth did in Marathon Infinity. Please discuss this insane conspiracy theory of mine.

  • Unfortunately, no; Destiny is an entirely new IP.

Two problems: The traveler helped us before we were struck down and if something that powerful struck us down wouldn't the be nothing left but dust of the cities on the other planets?
Everything changed with the arrival of the Traveler. Long ago, it breathed new life into our system and began our Golden Age. But it did not last. Something hit us. Knocked us down.
*Edit* Then again they could of captured it then used its power to breath life into the solar system but that wouldn't explain the name "Traveler."

    • One of the more interesting theories I've read. It's very plausible.

W'rkncacnter were imprisoned in stars, solar storms, and black holes. They are nearly impossible to control and their existence causes chaos. Maybe the W'rkncanter in the south American temple escaped and the Jjaro sent the traveler to contain it as it destroyed the earth. The Jjaro can move entire planets and have even created the s'pht (an alien cyborg race similar in appearance to the Hive and it's undead cyborg zombies). In Marathon, one escaping it's prison meant destruction on a cosmic scale with it's unbelievable and terrible power, which the travaler has given to you. Maybe some aliens, foolishly, are seeking out the power for themselves. (Even though they have no hope to control it).

      • An interesting theory but I feel like bungie really wants to do something totally new.

      • This by far has to be the most interesting thought I have seen applied towards Destiny by a long ways. This is fantastic and thank you.

I don't think that the traveler is something evil. It has no reason to sacrifice it's life for us and to even help us prosper. Your over thinking it which isn't bad but Bungie said it is good so...it's good! I also don't think this game is tied to any other games but what do we know, not much.

        • I like this idea, but as many know, I'm a supporter of a more metaphoric/parallel approach. The Traveler may not house a literal Jjaro contruct or W'rkncacnter, but the Destiny universe's equivalent to it. But I like the idea that the entire time, what people thought would be their salvation was really the enemy lying in wait.

          • It could just be a kinder surprise. I giant one. And there's a giant toy inside we have to assemble. But to reach the toy we must first eat the outside - okay it doesn't work. We should stick to your theory. Since there are sequels maybe in the last episode we are able to travel into the traveler

This is a really cool theory. I would love to see the Marathon-lore come back into the fold, even if its in spirit only.

            • Could the abilities that Warlocks acquire from the Traveler also be imagined by this monster or related to it in some way?

                  • It is possible that the thing that "hit us", the thing that "no one knows exactly what" could in fact be the traveler. Maybe it's up to something.
