I used to aspire....

To become a mod on this forum. I thought it would be great, but once I compared my activity to some of the heavier users and mods and I realized that I wouldn't be able to commit to such a task, also, I know that I would abuse the power. I think even under the old rules, not enough bans were handed out. I'm not sure that I am capable of objectively moderating either. Anyone else have realizations similar to this over the years and/or gained appreciation for the moderators we have now?

  • The ninjas are more ninja-like now. Make no mistake, though, they still worked in the shadows on Bungie.OLD. More bans were handed out than you may have realized, OP. We may have a bit less need for the ninjas now, but Recon will always be my creepy uncle.

I used to want to be a mod too, but now that bans aren't so public, I'm not so sure. I've just always wanted to use this when banning someone. Now, I'm not saying that I would be a corrupt Ninja, but I would have lots fun enforcing the rules.

    • I have an appreciation for Foman for dealing with all the flack sent his way, and an appreciation for Recon for somehow fighting through his insanity in order to keep moderating here. That's just two that stick out for me though.

Everybody used to want Ninja status. You practically became a rock star on the site overnight. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss the old rules and the power the mods used to wield. I can't even bring myself to go back to The Flood anymore because the threads are all awful and hold no discussion value (and because I still can't use the new forum layout efficiently).

      • Everyone is like a mod now anyway. The only think I want is my own Avatar (which is one of the only perks a mod has, besides free T-shirts, Beta invites, their own forum, Christmas cards, ...)

      • I realized I'm really bad at adapting and I miss the old Bnet. This feels like Reach, but I have more love for this site than I did for Reach.

I just do my part by following the rules, but I've never been interested on becoming one, I've got too much stuff to do IRL to do something like that, and trying to become a Bungie employee it demands a lot stuff in your portfolio.

        • That'd be a job I'd suck at. I've always tried to avoid the mods and employees, just so they have one less person to deal with.

        • We have Moderators? Since when? Why did no one tell me?! :P

        • I've always thought that, too me, time is one of the most important things in life. Also one of the things I have a hard time balancing with every other task I attempt to do. Being a "mod" isn't really something I'd be interested in becoming.

        • I used to be a moderator for a website. I think I ended with beyond -66,000 popularity there. I'm very strict with my adherence to the rules. I wouldn't mind if I magically became a ninja here, but I'd get pissed off for having essentially no authority to actually moderate while holding the title. And even if I did, I certainly wouldn't be liked. All that being said, I tend to avoid ninjas and Bungie employees (they deal with enough people), so there'd be no way to suck up for the position. Speaking of, hi [redacted for niceties]!
