You'll need to airbrush or go with vinyl. Using something like spray or brush-on paint is going to make your design more opaque than how you have it designed.

Yes, swirl is supposed to be a soft orange. Air brush will work for the buttons too?

Sure, you can just lay on a few more coats with the airbrush to make it more opaque. And honestly, if you are worried about not being able to do this, you can get someone to make the design and airbrush it for you. I can't imagine it would take a professional very long, and you'd almost spend that much getting a decent airbrush and materials together to do it yourself.

Yes I did consider that but I think that's the easy way out. I'm just worried about cost at this point. Yea I have enough, but I don't want to spend more than I need to. Right now it's US$200 for the local 3DS unit and another US$230+ to import one. Then the supplies themselves (assuming I go with the airbrush) bring the total price to US$580. That's not even counting games either, which bring the total cost around US$700. The only solace at this point would be selling back the imported DS for a good price, which would put the total expenses anywhere from US$570 to US$530 depending on how much a "brand new" XL would go for. A bit much for a unit that is reported to have a somewhat low build quality, but I think the process and eventual result will be worth it! A complete alternative to the imported console would be to buy a US motherboard separately (which is still expensive and hard to find). Then I'd just have to replace it with the UK one for region locking purposes, otherwise I'd need to import all of my games from the UK.
