Ron Paul Gone Too Far?

Source code.
In a post on the website of libertarian activist Lew Rockwell, Mr. Paul said Monday that the governmental reaction to the tragic explosions was worse than the attack itself. The forced lockdown of much of the Boston area, police riding armored vehicles through the streets, and door-to-door searches without warrants were all reminiscent of a military coup or martial law, Paul added. “The Boston bombing provided the opportunity for the government to turn what should have been a police investigation into a military-style occupation of an American city,” according to Paul.
Agree or disagree? Do you think going door to door forced armed searches are cool with you? Or a violation of Fourth Amendment? I know Bungie is full of Constitutional lawyers. Do you feel comfortable with the government exercising such military-esque occupation?

  • America could learn a thing or two from the British: keep calm and carry on. Don't let the terrorists win.

  • And if they didn't, and seeing as civilians found the suspect beneath a boat, they'd have been labelled as a lot of tax-wasting amateur wankers. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

  • Considering how unusual it seems for them to have that reaction it does make me wonder.

  • He also said, "This unprecedented move should frighten us as much or more than the attack itself." in which I absolutely agree.

  •
Amendment IV The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
The police violated the Fourth Amendment if they searched people without their permission to, or if they didn't have search warrants.

    • I agree with his sentiment. They locked down the city, conducted widespread questionable searches of people's houses, and failed to find the guy. All that man power wasted, and they never checked people's boats, which was the obvious hiding place.

    • Cut the crap. It's easy to say these sort of things when you're a guy on the fringe. But I bet Ron Paul would have made the exact same call if he was in the White House.

I think the fact that a terrorist bomber is loose in your city is reasonable cause for search.

              • 4th amendment. brah, no warrant searches violates the law. he's completely correct. no standard police unit needs to full of tryhard wannabe operators with million dollar gear for each wannabe troop. militarization for all non-swat is wrong. why do they need a police state? what they needed was to act on intel. it's just like 9/11. they had forewarning but did nothing to stop it.

I would feel a little uncomfortable, but I wouldn't show any hostilities towards them. Unless I/you have something or doing something that is illegal. I/you have no reason to be worried about them going through my/your house.

                    • I agree and disagree while i do agree that military-style occupation wanst needed (Humvee's, machine guns, etc), i disagree that they were just doing their job. the police didnt know where he was. I think they just needed swat and police to shutdown the town and search houses, anything beyond that wasnt needed. But Ron Paul does speak a semi truth, even though i wasnt in boston, the vids on the news looked like a military occupation.

well it certainly doesn't take much to get the American public to comply with such tactics.
