Seriously. You can't complain about religious people going door-to-door shoving their books of prayer down others' throats while you yourselves (ironically) religiously go to every religion thread so that you can talk about how stupid, silly, nonsensical, illogical, or obviously wrong religion and faith are.

I get it, it's a hot topic and you want to state your belief but to constantly assert your atheism in an obvious attempt to seem better than others because you've (again, ironically) "seen the light" that is the idea of nonbelief and are thus (one more time, ironically) holier-than-thou.
How dare atheists exercise their right to freedom of speech?!
Long story short: being publicly atheist in spite of religion as opposed to passively atheist (in a manner that it doesn't define who you are) is stupid and you should feel stupid.
Publically atheist? What are you on about?
HOW DARE THESE PEOPLE TELL ME I'M WRONG! ME BEING OFFENDED SHOULD MEAN THEY SHOULD ALL SHUT UP.

I mean its totally different if a theist does it, right?
-
1. That's not what I'm talking about. Freedom of speech is fine, but being pompous about it is not. 2. You cut the phrase in half. "Publically atheist in spite of religion" is all one title. Not just "Publically atheist".
-
pompous
This is one of the things that bugs me about people saying they don't like atheists. From what I see, the threshold for what is considered 'pompous' or offensive etc is a lot lower when coming from someone who is having their religious views questioned. Like some kind of persecution complex. Also there tends to be this strange belief that public displays of religion and professions of faith are okay whereas displays questioning or criticising religion are not.

Questioning my faith is fine with me. I'll gladly debate someone on why I do or do not believe something. The problem comes when atheists act like religious fanatics in that they put on a holier-than-thou attitude and make it seem as if they're somehow a better person for having "seen the light" that is nonbelief. An example would be the other day on here when someone asserted that atheists are, bar-nun, smarter than theists. They had a study to back them up, but that's all it was, a study. And, from that, they over and over asserted that atheists are smarter than theists. Things like that, when some atheists, in a fashion almost eugenics-esque, blindly declare superiority to theists or have a superiority complex with them.

1. Because? 2. Your point?
-
1. Being pompous in general is annoying and makes someone an unenjoyable person to converse with. 2. Your confusion comes from having split the phrase in half. It makes sense in the context of the entire phrase rather than the first two words thereof.
-
1. How are they pompous? 2. Again, you didn't explain what you meant by the whole statement.
-
1. By treating the religious like idiots and retards. 2. Okay... seriously? I'm not the OP but come on. Can you not read?
-
1. Examples? 2. He still hasn't clearly defined the whole statement!
-
1. I should hardly have to give you examples, but here are a few. Not all of them are from atheists, but if you scroll through a bit, you'll realize that a lot of them are. 2. All right then, I'll just leave it to you to figure out what he already said.
-
1. People being assholes? Say it ain't so!
-
Well you wanted examples didn't you?
-
Touche.
