Elysium Trailer, Neill Blompkamp, and the Halo Movie that Never Was...

So I am SUPER HYPED! about the Neill Blompkamp's new film Elysium. The trailer looks absolutely amazing! However, I am still very sad and bitter that the evil overlords at Microsoft killed the Halo film this guy was suppose to direct because you can see a glimpse of what could have been... (Click here for the details of why things fell apart) In the interviews I've seen, he's stated that he probably would not return to another attempt to make a Halo film, and I am wondering if this is because he not-so-subtly incorporated thematic elements from Halo into Elysium. There are three obvious ones that stick out in the trailer: 1) http://i.imgur.com/CEWOK1Z.gif Giant Ringed in Space Station 2) http://i.imgur.com/Vm6ejZD.jpg Machine Modified Human Super Soldier 3) http://i.imgur.com/GtrT5ui.jpg Pelican Looking Ship It's hard to tell from a trailer and I don't want to put words into Neill's mouth but part of me wonders if he included this stuff to say, "see this is the cool film you would have gotten if you had let me go through with it." So, really excited about Elysium but as fan of Halo's fiction, it's kinda of bittersweet, probably more so for Neill and Bungie than for me though...

 • Last I checked the guy didn't actually want to do it because of how big Halo is, besides if anything microsoft SAVED the movie. Hollywood wanted a new director to make the film while microsoft wanted a well known and established director like Speilberg and Jackson. Microsoft walked in Hollywood laid down the terms as they would for a video game and since the 2 industries worked differently (Gaming industry works together while the movie industry does not) it ended up with microsoft postponing the movie.
