MS wants the Nextbox to take over your TV

The new Xbox will act similar to Google TV, by using an HDMI cable to hook up to your cable box. It'll then layer its own UI and services over the channel or set-top box. The Xbox will need to always be on for access to TV signals and streaming, and an internet connection is required for entertainment services. The Kinect sensor, rumored to come bundled with the new Xbox, will play its part as a way to control UI, detect multiple people and respond accordingly, and even pause TV when your head turns away.
A separate, low-cost "Xbox TV" is also in the works, but it won't be launched until next year.

My 360 already has. Between Netflix, Hulu, Windows Media Center and the fact that AT&T has an app to run the 360 as a U-Verse set-top-box, the 360 IS the only thing that I use for my televisions.
