Is it wrong to be proud of being straight?

I see Gay pride images and posters everywhere, so that got me to wondering if it would be all right to show pride for being straight. If homosexuality is considered to be genetic rather than choice, than a straight person and be proud of not having that genetic defect. If it is considered a choice, a straight person can be proud of not straying towards that disgusting lifestyle. So, what is wrong with being proud of being straight?

  • Is it wrong? No. Will you look like a dick? Yes. Go ahead, have a Straight Pride parade, and see how much positive publicity you get from it, since heterosexuality isn't something that people are persecuted for or denied legal rights by the government.

    • It isn't direct pride in being gay. It's pride of being gay in a society where being gay brings inherent hardships. Gay pride would be stupid if homosexuality was truly regarded as equality to heterosexuality.

    • Your post reeks of idiocy and bigotry. And, yes, it is wrong to be proud of your orientation, skin color, nationality, or anything else that you don't personally achieve.

It's wrong to be proud of anything. Edit: Not wrong, just stupid.

It's been said before but I'll say it again, the only thing that one should be proud of is their own achievements. Frankly, I don't think gay pride is actually about just being prideful about being gay, it's about the achievement of accepting themselves in the face of extreme hate and prejudice.

      • It's pointless. Pride is reserved for something you achieve, it's not dependent on accidental birth location, ethnicity, beliefs or sexual orientation.

      • Whats to be proud of? I can understand the gay message, it's in part because they face discrimination and so they resisting the stigma attached to it. Whereas being straight? There's nothing infringing upon you.
