IGN: What Bungie's Destiny Does Better Than Halo

A brief interview with Joe Staten where he addresses some of the differences between Halo and Destiny. He touches on several different areas, one being enemy A.I., which I've wondered about myself and how Bungie will be able to keep things interesting with NPC combat over the long term. From what I've seen of their vision thus far, getting this aspect right is definitely a linchpin in Destiny being successful.

  • I really hope that Destiny doesn't end up being like Fable. Bungie seem very keen to talk about how they've got all these awesome capabilities to do things with their engine and all that, it brings to mind Molyneux's boasts about how trees will grow in real-time and all that. From what we've seen so far, honestly I think that Destiny has a lot to live up to and right now I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be with this new IP. The music especially has put me off, there's only one track I've heard so far that I like and that's because it sounds like something lifted directly out of an Elder Scrolls game - seriously, if you put it in a Skyrim or Oblivion gameplay video, I probably couldn't tell that it's from a different series. From the guy who is hailed as the industry's best composer ever of all time, I feel like I ought to expect more from him than what I've heard. I've seen a lot of people on this site already throw caution to the winds and already claim that Destiny is going to be the second coming of gaming Christ. I am conversely keeping my expectations relatively low so that I might be all the more appreciative and blown away by what I hope will be an amazing game.

Well I believe 343 is going to make some real choices to return to core gameplay when it comes to Halo 5. It will have bumpy road and it will need the community stamp of approval, but ultimately it's going to do well unless they really embrace their heads being planted in the sand. With that said I also think Bungie is going to release something truly ground breaking and will bolster PS4 sales. I really think 343 will do a 180 and try to cater to the competitive, especially with Bravo over there being a consultant/employee and the blowback of retention of players and DLC sales. So Halo 5 might be the essential PVP game and Destiny will be the essential PVE campaign and social adventure. To be honest both games are going to be in every gamer's library.
