Destiny NEEDS an "M" rating

I know that often times, developers and gamers alike don't really care what the rating on a game is, but from what I've heard (all speculation of course), is that Bungie is aiming for a "T" rating for Destiny. If this is the case, which I hope it isn't, it will be a huge mistake. The story for what Destiny is claiming to be, cannot be done justice if Bungie doesn't allow for the grit, violence, language, etc that would come with that setting, it can't be believable. If the world is almost completely wiped out, and the human race is having to fight several other species in a last ditch effort to survive, you better bet that there will be "F bombs" dropped, there will be people being shot (meaning decent amounts of blood), etc. Bungie, please, don't let yourselves be held back by a rating in order to get more sales. Make this game an "M" rated game. Anything less would be simply uncompelling and unbelievable, and would really detract from the story and mood that would be present should this situation in this game ever really happen.

  • I kind of have to agree with this, because a teen rating means there will be 6 year olds, an M rating means there will be 10 year olds. I feel that they should go full FPS and they will still have teen buyers

  • Started a new topic: Destiny should be rated Teen

Yea and thrift shop needs an M rating, I think Destiny needs a Teen rating due to its lack of blood, sexual content and use of drugs and alcohol. Besides its not Bungie fault somebody can't be appropriate and show respect to fellow players. If you want to rate this M minus well rate real life Ao. Besides you will get more sales if it is Teen, then more updates! =D

  • It's been saying this game is anticipated to be rated mature.

  • Halo is rated M...there is barley anything bad. No gore, barely any curse words, no sexual stuff. Blood? In the first Halo when you punched dead enemies...but that's about it.

  • Hey I think destiny should have a teen because nowadays parents are now a bit nudgy with game ratings. This can expand the game to a bigger audience then just adults. Of course it can have dark story without blood and f bombs. I am not really allowed to play mature games so this would be awesome if it was a teen rating game.

    • You don't need gore and cursing to make a great game. Whether it will be T or M, I'm sure it will be fantastic.

    • Could just make a gore setting like gears of war Turn it off and there's no blood and and limbs flying everywhere and could give parents an option to keep the blood and guts away from children's precious little minds. But at the same time your kid can watch an hour of the news or CNN and they're gonna see blood it's part of life people are gonna see blood even in a T rated game. The "F-Bomb" isn't necessary though for people to follow the game. Really excessive cursing in video games just tells me that the person that wrote the story sucked and had to make his characters cuss alot just so people can hear them talk

      • As far as I know, the only rating people care about is Ao, and those games aren't sold in stores. Everything else is pretty much fair for anyone. I really hope Bungie doesn't hold themselves back just for this broken rating system.

      • its about the details. there are too many limitations with games that are T rating or younger. i'm going to play it regardless, but i would prefer the game to be M as well. the more realistic they can make it, the better.

      • This game doesn't need to be rated 'M' to have a good story. There are tons of games that aren't rated 'M' that have great stories. Uncharted, Infamous, Batman Arkham City/Asylum, even BioShock (I know it was 'M' but only because of the blood and the touchy topics). You really don't know a dark story if you think this is one.

An M rating isn't necessary, just as a multitude of "f bombs" are not necessary, for a mature story.

        • There are plenty of more meaningful ways to express the gravity of a situation without using language. There are plenty of games that do it. Just because COD swears to be edgy doesn't mean that Bungie has to. They are true storytellers who don't need to rely on little cultural quips to get their point across. They put in plenty of violence without making it grotesque like some other games. If that means that more people can play it, then all the better.

          • I agree. The little 10 year olds are never mature enough to play games like this and get REALLY annoying. But just note, blood and gore is not necessary. I hope they keep the blood to a minimum like they did in Halo.

          • I do believe that with the trailer that was last released, the ESRB notice said that "this game has an expected rating of M" or some such that means the same. I don't remember the exact wording. Given the insane popularity of other games with a M rating, I don't know if you can say that it does much to hold a game back, at least not these days.

          • It's not so much blood but more head-blown-off-and-soul-escaping-kinda-kills. Not as Gruesome but oh so much more satisfying...
