Destiny and our helmets.

Do you think that we'll be able to take off our helmets?

  • In my opinion, I would think it would be a little redundant to have the ability to design a character and then never see there face. But then I think about my time playing all these other rpg's and realize I never see their faces either since I play first-person view. So it might be that the CC is for us to feel more connected to our character, rather than playing as some default person. Though I would really like the ability to take off our helmets at certain places in the game, or have it ripped off in cut-scenes, it wouldn't really bother me if we didn't. At least I would know what my character looks like (Imagination).

Started a new topic: I really hope my spaceship can double as a...(8 Replies))

  • That second tag deserves a thread of its own.

    • This guy isn't wearing a helmet. Now it's just concept art, but still, it seems there was at least the concept of removing one's helmet thrown around at one time. The mask he's wearing could be considered a type of "helmet" but to me, the development reason for using non-removable helmets would be so you don't have to render faces. But since in this case they'd have to render a face anyway, it might easily be an option.

    • I could go both ways, but I'd rather the helms and the mystic of them than actual human faces.

    • I think we will but we will be able to customized it probably like Skyrim or even better. Who knows only the Vex will tell.

I also hope they don't let us, keep it like the rookie and noble six more. Remember in reaches first cinematic when its noble 6 in the passenger side of a warthog and your looking down at YOUR helmet, that YOU picked? Then he puts it on, but I don't know about the rest of you I got that feeling like it was me putting it on. I think that's what they are going for again with the Guardians.. We are the Guardians.

    • TL;DR: No. Long form answer: Bungie wants us to project ourselves into the armor, into the Guardians. It's not like we're playing a specific character like Master Chief or Noble Six. We're making our own stories here. I would not be the least bit surprised to see the Guardians' character be identical to ODST's Rookie. They want us to connect to the game in our own way. Part of this derives from Destiny's goal. It's an inherently social game. It requires an internet connection to play, and there will be a singleplayer/cooperative campaign/exploration mode and a competitive multiplayer mode. This is not necessary a plot-driven game. It has a story, and it has characters, but the game (what we've seen so far of it anyway) is driven by the player, not a script or a mission director. I think it could be a lot like Mass Effect in that sense. Sorry for a roundabout explanation. But yeah, I feel like the answer to your question is a solid "no".

    • Doubt it, they want us to be able to relate personally to our character, that means keeping the face anonymous so we can imagine the face underneath is ours. Just like you never saw the face of Noble 6 in Halo Reach.

If one can take it on and off, it better not only be cosmetic (EDIT: like Mass Effect).
