Most People are Clueless About Our Economy

This video does a great job of showing our economic situation, compared to how we perceive it. http://www.youtube.com/embed/QPKKQnijnsM

    • I'm not so willing to trust this survey as of yet, however in America there are some serious problems. The American economy is close to Lassiez-faire, so people can essentially gain monopolies, hire and fire people with too much ease. The problem isn't with capitalism, its the unrestricted capitalism which is the problem. All you need in America is plenty more laws to help the poorer, but at the same time not too many laws, or society will degrade too far into socialism, which will reduce incentives to work and innovate, damaging the economy beyond repair

    • I got a story for you, flud. My dad used to work for a bus company here in New York. He worked for this company for ten whole years. Five days a week, he would get up at 3AM, drive nearly an hour to the bus yard, and start working his shift all the way to around 6:30PM when public transportation closes. He was entitled to four week-long vacations a year, and he would work through three of them, only because his union requires all working to take atleast one each year. He would work through holidays, and he never took a single sick or personal day. One day, Bloomberg/levee forces all public transportation companies to go up for bid, and the owners had to bid back on their company. Well, the owner of this bus company lost the bid. He lost it to some rich man who lives in texas. Do you know what this Texan did? He fired everyone from the company, and sold it off again within a week. Thats over 300 drivers, desk workers, and mechanics with families who got screwed out of a job. Just so some sociopath could make an extra buck. Not only is that not right, but it hurts people, including you. Three hundred people are out of work, which means less money circulates and blah blah blah, you know how it works. Now lets say these people had a wife and atleast one kid. Thats 900 people who now just barley scrape by just to have bread at the end of the week. Everything about how the current system works is extremely flawed, and you have to be extremely ignorant and arrogant to even think otherwise, or to even say you don't care.

        • The perpetual drive for profits without regard for its impact on people and environment, the enmity and strife created in the fight for control of resources on a global scale, the centralization of political, economic and social power and the systematic distraction/marginalization of the masses are all concerning issues. Money has found its way into the core of most of our institutions. Is that good or bad? The argument exists that global capitalism has raised the standards of living for many throughout the world and brought about a golden age of longer lifespans, individual rights to life and property, unheralded prosperity and innovation, bolstered by the discourse that an increase in consumption capacity equates a "better life". These ideas are countered by the notion that any system that maintains consumerism as its dominant cultural value leads to the inevitable and absolute reduction of the rights and freedom of its agents to zero as long as the ability to consume is left intact. Our shared socio-economic climate is rooted in the emergent decisions that humans have been making for thousands of years, and the issues that we face here are pervasive and complex. What says you?

        • I, don't, give, a, -blam!-. I am happy, I don't need any more. Why would I grab my torch and pitchfork to attack a system that I'm fine with? I don't give a -blam!- that they make more than me. My income is growing, I know that this is happening, I'm not going to get up in arms about this. So please, stop shoving this all over the place like it's some kind of revolution.

"Clueless about the economy" should be "Americans underestimate how large wealth inequality actually is". People know it's a sizeable gap they're just not fully aware of how large it actually is. I don't blame them since poor America is separate from rich America socially and geographically.

OP is pretty clueless about our economy, at least based upon what b.s. topics I've seen him create. Though, the video isn't half bad. Okay, +1 to the OP.

It's interesting that you accuse "most people" of being "clueless about the economy" while sharing an egregiously misleading piece of propaganda that's old as hell.
