Speculation on Armor and Mods, in keeping identity.

One of the things I always find a little hilariously tragic about most games that claim to diversify their players is that, while all the armor and weapons and gear in general is diverse, it tends to have its own cemented stats. For example, say you like your starting armor for the most part. Well sooner or later you're going to have to ditch it for the better stuff. If you want to contend with the later levels of the game you're going to have to dawn the Blazer of Awkwardness and Jeans of Casual Wear somewhere down the road so you're not being murdered almost effortlessly. However, if the armors themselves have customization in the form of modification you could see an end to that, at least in Destiny. Granted, I'm going to assume there's still base stats to armors, but modifications could still allow one to dawn whatever cape, helmet, or lucky slippers one wants. Because, well, you know if the armors are locked in stats everyone's going to prance about in the highest rated Blazers. What do yins think?

  • I think they could partially solve this by treating armor in a horizontal fashion. Like, no armor is really "better" than another, but they serve different play styles. The problem is that I know that I would eventually run into an armor that looks awesome, but doesn't serve my purposes very well.

    • If anyone played DC Universe they probably know the syle menu. This gives you the option to use the look of any item you have ever equipped in the game. You can also change the color. I think this would be a good idea for Destiny to do as well to add personalization to the player.

      • you mean in terms you could edit your armours look to what you like and inside the pieces basicly you have sections you can lock items/mods into for example a chest piece could have a material piece, shield piece and equipment slot piece, weight of these mods would effect the characters agility etc, and guns could have things similar

        • I really like this idea, and a good way to make people choose to either use another set of armour, or upgrade their current one, would be to make upgrades 'Bond' with that armour, so once you replace/remove that upgrade, it gets destroyed, so you cant just use the same upgrades for every armour.

I'd like it if the look and functionality of armor was completely separate, for instance you find the armor, which is an empty shell with a modification slot. The modification you put into the slot dictates the usefulness of armour, later levels could have two slots to allow a broader range of abilities and specifications. Edit: I'd totally like to see the Awkward Blazer as 'social' item that you can wear in the city hub. /awkwardhands
