Boobs in Destiny (Breast Thread Ever)

There's a certain type of response that I'm expecting for this thread (immature and full of boob jokes), and then there's a certain kind of response I'm looking for (responsible conversation). I'm not telling either of you types of posters to leave. It's okay.
I would like to talk about breasts. Specifically, armored breasts. I don't want Destiny to go down a dark path of poor anatomy.
Allow me to say that the more unbalanced the ratio of female to male artists there are on a project, the higher the likelihood of us seeing game armor like [url=http://pds22.egloos.com/pmf/201101/18/68/e0072368_4d34afdf54228.jpg]this[/url]. It's annoying enough to have two melons on your chest, but when they're held up by gravity-defying pieces or metal, that's painful. Bras filled with cushioning and breathable material can still be painful. Imagine chicken wire holding up your moobs.
But that's an over-the-top fantasy MMO, not a space opera. So let's pick a space opera. Do sports bras not exist there? Can we top that off with the idea of a blunt object going towards someone's chest? You know, the bone right in front of a shit ton of vital organs.
So what's the solution for this problem?
1. Cut a hole in the box.
2. Make sure your artists/modelers are well versed in proper female anatomy.

4. Take the awesome male armor you had before and put a woman in it. Don't get me wrong! People come in all shapes and sizes. Breastplates will sometimes need to be a bit bigger for some people and some people will need slimmer sets of power armor. Sometimes people wear form-fitting armor, but that still doesn't excuse outlining the breasts on the armor. 3 RepliesIn the world that we live in, all be it sometimes sick, sex sells. Most games that have curvy figures, a male player will even pick the female character to play, all for the reason of, they would rather stare at cut scenes/ camera view of something other than what they look like. I'm saying that a man wanting to look at woman is a bad thing. In fact I think that it is a good thing, it is a natural attraction. But there comes a line between looking and lusting. Most of the female characters are made more attractive than what would be in real life, but the creator of the games knows the economics of the industry, and knows that sex sells. I"m ok with a game creating different gender characters, but I think that you were wanting the characters to be more life like. Making their lumps smaller. Besides i think that a good way to think about it is, a valuptious woman wouldn't fare well in the battle field. Larger surface area for bullets/projectiles to hit.

2 RepliesThroughout my life this has bothered me. As a little boy I didn't understand it, as a teenage boy I thought it was hot but really unnecessary, and now I still look at it and ask why? Honestly, there are only a handful of people that prefer this to a more realistic character. For everyone else, it can truly ruin a game.

Don't we play games to separate our game world from reality in order to experience something extravagant? I don't see how media would benefit from [b]always[/b] sacrificing aesthetics for the sake of reflecting real world images. In that case, most of the characters in this game should be 5'3 boys, covered in acne and trying to grow a shitty mustache, given the demography. And for the record, mass effect did female armor very well.

I remember Bungie or maybe it was Rockstar West was forced to create more and more revealing concept art of Konoku for Oni. Although her armor is exactly the opposite of the realistic form that a lot of progressives are hopeful for; a design most desirable for a game series, not only meant for a T (child) audience but also as a believable and immersive universe. The game released with cover art dipicting a fully clothed Konoku, but I'm not sure I remember the same from the manual art.

1 ReplyBungie are generally pretty good at making women look equally as hard ass as men are with their armour. Take the female armour in Reach, for example. It was the exact same as the male armour, minus the fact its proportions, which were changed to fit the female model. Then you have the female marines in all of the Halo games, same story there. While I agree with your sentiment, the core demographic of the video game industry is young males. Nothing sells better to this group then sex. Being part of that group, I don't mind busty female characters. Sorry.

I think Bungie normally does a pretty good job of having female characters (besides Cortana) being depicted in a reasonable and not overly sexualized way. Also, looking at the armor for the character depicted in the screenshot that we have it doesn't look like the type of thing that is going to be cut down into a metal bikini.
