Hybrid Games - The Future of Gaming?

Scroll down to the prompt if you don't care about the example.
Preface/Example
So a game I like to play a lot is FIFA 13, and as I've been playing the career mode of it recently (rather religiously, I might add), I've noticed that the game goes well-beyond a simple "score more points than the other team as frequently as possible"-game. In career mode, your players each have a set of 28 skills (ranging from shot power to slide tackling to stamina) and are given a 1-99 rating for each, with something like 55-60 overall being average. But, your player isn't stuck with that rating for each skill; as you play well with them, their skills' ratings progress individually to overall make them a better player. A player who starts off as an overall 60 can be progressed up to a 75 or 80 over the course of a few seasons. This kind of involvement with the progress of your players, especially if you do what I do and start off with a not-so-good team so that you can progress them to be one of the best, is distinctly RPG-ish in nature. The stat management, the ensuring that you use all the players in your team (party) so their stats keep up, and the adding of better players and dropping bad ones as the need arises are all things that are very closely tied with RPGs and at the same time are big parts of this game. The next influence is that of management games. These include games like Farmville, Sims, parts of Civilization, and any other game that has a heavy emphasis on person, stat, item, or resource management. Choosing which player to play, and when to play them, and how often to play players so that their morale doesn't drop too low, and when to play players in what positions is all a highly technical part of the game which is very much removed from the aforementioned "score more points than the other team as frequently as possible"-type of game that sports games used to be. On top of all of that, is the actual game of soccer (football) played once you've finished doing and managing everything noted above.
Prompt
Do you think this is the future of games: games with elements from multiple genres to create a more intricate, involved, and fun experience for the user? Personally, I think that the success of games like Portal (being an FPPS: First Person Puzzle Shooter) and FIFA 13 (being an RPSG: Role Playing Sports Game) indicates a resounding "yes". What other games have you noticed that have this sort of blending of genres, and what kind of genre-mix are you waiting for someone to make?

 • While I will NEVER pick up a sports game, achieving originality in games is now nearly impossible without drawing from 2 or more genres. So ya, hybrid games are the future assuming devs choose to make progress rather than milk the same set up over and over
