I love games like Halo and Gears, but if there's one thing that EVERYONE is hanging on, it's the whole "humanity gets nearly destroyed, but (pulls ray of hope out of arse) they prevail!"
Gears of War (while not exactly aliens): Locust in 1 day decimate human population - 3/4 dead.
Halo: Covenant comes and -blam!-s up Harvest. Kills everyone. Covenant comes and -blam!-s up Madrigal. Kills everyone. Covenant come and -blam!- up Reach. Kills everyone and some Spartans. Then OMG random jump and we find Halo! Wow, such luck! Now we can win! :D
I want to see a game in which the aliens come and attack, and humans go "Whoa, da -blam!- you doing!?" and fight back with some damn tenacity! Seriously, an all-out war with both sides loaded to the damn teeth would be FAR more exciting and fun! (IMO)
One instance in gaming gave me that rush of "we're not going down without a fight", and that was Crysis 2. That one part of the 2nd (please correct me if I'm wrong) mission where an alien gunship zooms past, tearing apart a building. It's moving incredibly fast, but some HUMAN helicopters are chasing it, shooting it, damaging it and forcing it to retreat and eventually crash. That was definitely in my top 5 360 gaming moments. It was simply too epic.
I just want a game where humanity and whatever other race just stand toe-to-toe and then preceed to brutally beat the shit out of each other.

Just another example of a stale genre. Those would include militaristic wars, zombie apocalypses, quests for sacred items to save a kingdom, rescuing princesses, fighting to clear your name, being an assassin chasing targets, stopping a crime before it happens, fighting to stop a badguy from taking over the world, etc. Everything's been done.

You mean like the film Skyline (which in itself was illogical but it got the lack of preparation right)?
-
I want to see a game where we play AS the the aliens, invading Earth.
-
This is why Warhammer and Star Wars are awesome. Humans come to your planet and kick your ass.

Maybe you should read up some of the lore about Halo before shouting nonsense like this. Ignorance. Besides that, I do agree for a certain part about Gears of War.

How about humans attack for once?

In Halo's defense the UNSC was pretty much loosing against the Covenant. They were just holding out. Over time the Covenant would have crushed them. If it wasn't for the civil war and the Covenant separatists joining the UNSC. They would have lost. Both those factors played major roles in the UNSC winning.
