League of Legends vs Dota 2

So which game do you prefer to play, and why?

  • I've only ever played LoL, though I think I will try Dota at some point. I dunno, Dota's heroes seem more unimaginative than League's Champions, it makes it difficult to decide who I would start playing with. While many of you see the inabillity to play as every champion in League as a downside, it definitely helps out beginners by restricting the firehose of information somewhat.

    • DoTA looks badass as hell but I can't play it; League makes me rage. Yup

    • Dota has many times the depth and strategy of League, along with many more stats and intricacies. League actually just took everything from Dota and simplified it down to it's basic elements, it makes for a great casual game that anyone can get in to, but if you want any form of depth, strategy, or creativity, it falls short. For instance, there's dozens of strategies to play Dota, and the "meta" changes like every 2 months. League seems to be obsessed with keeping it's meta the way it is, even punishing players for playing outside of it. So yeah, I like Dota 2. I can't say anything about HoN or other ARTS games though because I haven't played them.

    • DotA 2 because it's graphically superior/nicer design and I feel that it's easier to get into. The communities are equally bad though.

      • I've played a lot of League, but I'm currently trying to get into Dota 2 because of its simplified stats, higher production values, and the fact that all of the characters are available from the start.

      • I've pretty much only played LoL. I tried playing Dota 2, but it was all blurry and it kicked me off every time I attempted to adjust the resolution. Maybe I'll try playing it again later, but for now I'm about to unlock a new champ in LoL.

      • Heroes of Newerth. LoL is too noob friendly comparatively speaking, and DOTA 2 hasn't bothered to try to innovate from my understanding. HoN has become somewhat imbalanced lately but at least it is trying to change up the scene.

      • The fact that Dota 2 gives you every hero for free while LoL restricts you to just a few choices (without paying for access to the rest) is a pretty big point in Dota's favor.
