Dead Space 3 Concerns

For those who are interested in getting Dead Space 3, you may want to consider the following three things: 1. It will include microtransactions. http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/01/22/news-dead-space-3-includes-microtransactions 2. It isn't optimized for PC. http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/29/dead-space-3-not-superior-on-pc 3. DLC has already been announced, despite the fact that the game hasn't even hit stores yet. http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/29/dead-space-3-dev-hints-at-disturbing-dlc To sum it up, I wouldn't recommend buying this game (if you actually care about what I recommend). No game with a $60 price tag should include microtransactions, and no developer should make plans for their games DLC before the game even comes out. Not to mention the fact that PC gamers are getting completely ripped off because the developer is to lazy to make a good PC port. In the interest of fairness? Really? Hopefully the VicseralGames/EA realize their mistake and decide to fix the PC port, put the DLC planned into the original game, and drop the microtransactions. Of course, this probably won't happen.

  • What about the fact that its plot is laughably stupid? The ending was leaked and its terrible.
Turns out the Necromorphs were just defending themselves from the "evil human" mining corporations. The final boss is THE MOON which turns out is a giant Necromorph head. You fight this enemy IN SPACE WITH NO HELMET ON You defeat it by shooting Markers at its eyeballs. After its dead you push a button which blows EVERYTHING up, Isaac, the MOON, the other guy, everything. Isaac dies in the cold of space but whispers something after the credits ("real ending" DLC coming out in 2 weeks u guys!)
1. It's completely optional you would most likely have everything unlocked by the time the game ends regardless and micro transactions aren't bad unless they involve multiplayer. The only reason I can see them being bad is if you are irresponsible with your money and can't help but to buy them. 2. EA is known for this hence ME2, I'm sure you can play it with the 360 controller though. 3. Pretty much every game is doing this now and protesting about it isn't working so might as well get used to it. I'm just mad that as of now they don't have a season pass so at least you would get the first one for free and the DLC issue would be resolved.

I don't care about the microtransactions. Dead Space 1 and 2 had them. Dead Space Mobile stepped forward and made it so you could buy credits and ammo and such(too far IMO.) As long as you can get through the game without the support of microtransactions then there's nothing to freak out about. Disk Locked content that is being used to sell to us later is glaringly annoying. A good example of this was Gears of War 3's first map pack which was on the disk but you couldn't play it unless you bought it. And even if you did buy it your friends could join your game and play it because it was ON THE DISK. In my opinion if it's on the disk we should have access to it. End of story. Dead Space 3 isn't scary. So what? We're on our 3rd game now with Necromorphs. We know what they are. What they're capable of. Unless EA went all-out Slender/SCP containment breach on us it won't be scary anymore. That would just make it stupid. It's supposed to be psychological fear. Give you a feeling of uneasyness. Jump scares are stupid.

I'm far more concerned that the entire series has gone from "Survival horror" to "gears of space" Oh, and when it comes to dlc, as long as they're not yanking stuff out of the original game to sell back to us, I'm fine with it ( and post launch support/content is always nice)

      •
1. It will include microtransactions.
I remember Dead Space 1 and 2 doing this with upgraded weapons. Also, Forza 4 and Horizon allows you to purchase tokens to buy cars with, and NBA 2K13 allows you to buy credits to upgrade your player in My Career mode... Its not new, yet I don't remember anyone having problems with them.

        • all of this is secondary to the fact that DS3 has jumped genres in an unnecessary and misguided attempt to garner a larger fanbase by removing everything the series has to distinguish it from generic covered-based action shooters.

          •
and no developer should make plans for their games DLC before the game even comes out
I never did understand why people are upset by the fact that developers plan out DLC before the game even comes out. Do you honestly think that developers should waste their resources after launch by not planning ahead in the present?

            • I'm indifferent on the microtransactions. That's just EA trying to grab as much money as they can from "mobile gamers." The scavenger bots also make this something only people with an instant gratification mindset would consider, as stated by John Calhoun As for the PC, the first two were the same. Most people play DS on console, and while having it fully optimized for PC would be nice, EA wouldn't wait the few weeks for it to happen. To them, it's just money lost. At least it can be modded, i guess... I'm fine with the DLC for 2 reasons. 1:It's not disc locked. We all hate it when devs do that. 2:There are plenty of story options available. From Isaac's dad Paul (mentioned in DS1) to Lexine and Gabe (Steve hinted he was still kicking at the end of severed)There's a plethora of possibilities of how it can add content to an already HUGE game. At least it's not a day one DLC scam including details about the markers origins. *Glares at ME3* Overall, IMO, as long as the game delivers, i couldn't care less. Dead Space is one of my favorite franchises, and i want to see it prosper. Altman be praised

              • Why does everyone hate on this game so much, the demo was just a small section of the game. Also Steve Papoutsis said they never wanted to make a survival-horror game or and action game, they just wanted to make a high quality game.

              • 1. The microtransactions aren't by any means forced upon you, and they were totally blown out of proportion. 2. The said that just because it isn't optimized doesn't mean it won't run smoother and look nicer. Not that I'll play it on my PC anyways. 3. So what, a lot of games do this nowadays, at least it's not day one DLC.

              • Micro-transactions give players a way to improve their game experience quicker. You can get all the same things in-game that you can with those transactions. Therefore I have absolutely no problem with their presence. Just like how they are fine in Mass Effect. Don't care about PC. And games are out of the hands of developers ages before it is actually released, mate. What do you think these companies do when they say goodbye to their part of the process? Twiddle their thumbs for a few months until they get a new directive? No. They plan for future products. DLC. So of course they have a plan for DLC. That's not a bad thing either.

As for microtransactions, that's just EA being EA and I'm fine with DLC this early as long as none of it's disc-locked.
