Map Editor

Should Destiny have a map editor? If you think it should what kind of pieces would you like to see? I want AI. Meaning go ahead and lay down path nodes and place spawn points for AI .

  • Maybe this is because I've never liked forge (I'll be honest, I hated Halo), but I really don't feel as if it would fit. They're already forging (no pun intended) a full, open world. It wouldn't make sense for players to just be able to make a map. Are planets just going to randomly appear? Or are there just gonna be moon bases that are invisible except under certain circumstances? I just don't think it fits in the whole "open world" concept very well.

  • I don't know, it was surprising on Halo, but still worked. I would like it if it was so much more different and better than Forge. It seems like I'd spend more time in the world and if that's big enough I wouldn't need a Forge mode...just wandering the frontier.

  • When you say AI, do you mean being able to place spawns and/or path nodes? Or do you mean being able to construct some sort of nav mesh in the map editor? I personally would love to be able to get my hands on that terrain editor from the vidoc :D looks ridiculous!

      • I'd be up for some sort of map editor. (depending on what Destiny will be like)

      • I was hoping that they would include some kind of software development kits in the PC version of their next game. This would provide more opportunity to people out in the public to get familiar with the tools before working at Bungie. It's like how Valve allows any user who owns a source game have the option to download the SDK tools to make maps and show what they are capable of.

        • Really depends what game. In a game like Halo, a map editor would be nice (better than forge). As for Destiny, what I'm imagining it will be is sort of like Borderlands or Skyrim except with many MMO touches to it. Maybe a map editor to create your house or something, maybe to create a clan guild or whatever. It depends if there's going to be a typical FPS multiplayer as well.

          • I would like to see Forge return but with some upgrades to it.

              • A map editor would be amazing, especially if it included AI. What would be really cool is if we could make our own maps from scratch, complete with AI, quests, even our own made up weapons and vehicles.

              • It entirely depends on what kinds of game it is... And as of right now, we don't really know. Is it an arena shooter? Is it a PvP MMOFPS? Is it a PvE MMOFPS? Map editing might work for a small-scale game, but not an open world MMO.
