If you have it bookmarked on Firefox, go to the thread on the old site, then check the last reply, and navigate to around that time in the forums to find it.

Which private group? If it isn't a group with a thousand pages like Sapphire, you should be able to just go through page by page until you find it. And if you have the thread bookmarked in anyway, links will take you directly to the thread on the new site if it is in a group.
