How are you actually supposed to treat acne??

I've seen many topical treatments that are supposed to get rid of and prevent acne. I have noticed that some of these treatments are conflicting. Some people tell you to put moisturizer with aloe on your face, and some people tell you to use salicylic acid, which dries out the acne. So what is the correct treatment?

  • I just wash my face every night before going to bed and take two showers a day. No acne since my high school sophomore year.

  • Wash your face daily with a warm water towel and soap. This is what worked after having the anti acne products not do anything.

    • soap to get rid of the oil on your skin, then acid to open up the pores. followed by some medicated acne lotion/soap/whatever you call it to clean out the pores and then heal them up.

    • Good to start by not eating greasy, fattening, artery clogging foods. They only them acne worse. Then you can use treatments such as creams and so on.

The most effective way to treat acne is with drugs. I had bad acne for awhile and I thought I would just outgrow it like most people do but when you're 18 and still getting a lot of acne it doesnt look like youll outgrow it. I went to a determatologist and she said that I had very severe acne and that topical stuff wouldn't do anything for me whatsoever. She prescribed me accutane which ive been on for about 4/5 months now and by the end of 2 weeks I was already seeing results and havent had new acne since. I'm still on the medication and it seems to be plateauing so i think my treatment will be over soon, but Im now content with my body now, no more feeling awkward. They said that accutane will make you break out really badly and then it will correct itself, but in my case my acne couldn't get worse so it just started clearing up. I now have very mild acne which which will be reduced to very tiny scars after a couple more months of the medication. If you're struggling with your acne and nothing seems to work for you, go get accutane from a determatologist and let it work its wonders.

    • Having suffered from what the doctor described as a "relatively extreme" case of acne, a good route would be that of drugs - I was on Roaccutane for a while in my teens and that really cleared it up. Whats best for you is obviously up to you, your doctor & family. If you are not as severe I would suggest trying washing your face in salt water (fill the sink with water and put salt in, mix it a bit). Water should be warm but not hot, the salt helps clear out the pours quite a bit. It's not a solution, but decent for remedial and reducing the impact. Seeing a bit more of the sun helps too.

    • From my personal experiences, sleeping on a wet towel works. The towel has to be clean, though, and it's pretty -blam!-ing uncomfortable. I take warm shower- warm to the point that I start to sweat. I'm assuming that means the skin pores open, but I know that it makes cleaning your face a lot more effective. I also use make up remover wipes to clean my face 2-3 times a day, but it has to be a specific kind. The wrong kind of wipes do next to nothing except dry out my skin

    • I find messing with my natural face oils makes things worse. I rinse my face with water in the shower and towel dry. If I use face wash or anything, it increases chances of break outs.

I heard sleeping with a clean towel on your pillow is the best way.

      • The actual cause of acne. Basically, as your hormone production goes up, the chance of your pores being blocked increases. When that happens, this bacteria (which normally causes no issues) grows so extensively that it causes acne. Acne treatments that kill the bacteria will stop acne, but they also remove the benefits that bacteria brings. Contrary to popular belief, acne has little to do with the cleanliness of the individual.

      • Seek a dermatoglogist, they will tell you what to do. My advice is, use a good cleanser to rid yourself of oil, use a goid moisturizer lotion that also helps with oil. And don't fap.

      • Sun. Get lots of it. Water. Drink lots of it. Wash your face with facial cleanser once in the morning once at night. Try to refrain sitting in front of a computer screen more than 1 hour a day. DO NOT TOUCH OR SCRATCH YOUR FACE
