Private Group Problems

While Bungie was dark and Bungie.net got increasingly stagnant, private groups are what helped maintain strong bastions of activity on this site. As the founder of a private group with hundreds of members that was more active than all but two of the main forums, and was among the fastest-growing and most active private chapters on the site. If it was not for groups like mine, Bungie.net would have lost many members a long time ago. This is not arrogance; it is a fact. I will also start by saying that I think this update brought a lot of cool things to private groups. I like the basic privacy settings and thing that they're a good way to have more interactivity between the main forums (forum?) and private groups - a connection that hasn't really existed before. I think the dichotomy between being a "follower" and "member" might be interesting, but I'm also unsure about how it will affect group growth. As my group focuses heavily on debate, I also like the new thread structure, and expect it to be very useful once improved. However, there are some major problems that have arisen, to the point where much of what my group did is almost impossible. Most importantly, moderation is completely ineffective. All banned users in private groups were unbanned. To ban a user, I have to scroll through pages of members to find the offender. There is no way to have members be moderators without also letting them be admins. This is a huge problem. I appreciate the benefits of ditching member titles, but creating a sharp dichotomy between mod and not creates problems. Also, the inability of even admins to edit posts in their group seems like a step backwards. I will have more feedback soon, but more than anything I am disappointed right now. I was hoping that Bungie would acknowledge that private groups were integral to keeping this site alive in the darkness and give us more, not fewer, tools to customize our chapters. But such does not seem to be the case.
