As an admin in a couple of groups, I've noticed several features that are missing that were very useful in the past. I'm hoping that some of these features will return in the future.
Missing Features:
- Only one level of admin (Preferred options to turn on/off certain rights)
- No ability to lock threads! (This one is a HUGE issue for us.)
- Can't ban straight from the forum; have to go to members and then ban.
- Can't edit members' comments. UPDATE: This has been resolved!
- No search member feature
- Member titles!
- Articles/FAQs/Links pages
Group Issues/Bugs:
- Missing threads - entire threads seem to have been purged from groups. UPDATE: This issue has been resolved.
- All admins but one demoted.
- Some groups have incorrect founder listed
- Banning members results in kicking them from the group! UPDATE: Only if they belong to more than 10 groups.
Suggestions:
- Customize layout
-- Turn/on off nested replies
-- Ability to list posts chronologically in ascending order
-- Themes to change background colors, fonts.
- Private group post reporting/ report queue for moderators and admins
- Group forum tags: it's nice that we can tag threads in private groups; however, if those threads are not public, they appear to be useless. I would like to be able to see a list of group-specific tags.
- Ability to search within groups!
- Badge system for members
- Ability for admins to tag members' threads. (Perhaps will come with ability to edit members' posts?)
- List of followers that are not current members
Other thoughts?

How did I get here?

Thanks for the #feedback. The full compliment of chatter for large groups has yet to be ported over to here. It will appear over time. We need to do this in batches, lest you all be locked out in read-only status for another week.
-
Everything you posted would be great. I would like to add that, at the moment, I cannot accept or deny membership. Under the "Admin" tab on the app there never seems to be anything.
-
Feedback: When I click on a link from my notification tab and it shows the quick preview of the thread, please make it so when you click on the group title, it returns to the groups forum, and not the group About page.
-
A couple of other thoughts: Would it be possible to see a list of followers that are not in the group? I would like to see who is following our group that is not actually a member. Being able to lock (or permanently hide) threads is crucial. We need this ability back as admins. Having 3 threads on one topic with no ability to lock any of them only creates an even more disjointed conversation.

I agree with pretty much all of your comments. I was hoping for even greater control over groups, but much of our control has been taken away. It would be great to have some of the old features, such as banning from threads, editing, searching users, assigning titles/security levels, and locking, as well as some additional features like searching within groups (which would now have a purpose, as the search bar actually works) and giving out badges.

Edited by Froggie: 1/11/2013 5:44:43 PM#bugreport ! We banned a member of our group for test purposes. It kicked him out of the group entirely and now won't let him rejoin. Also not showing up under banned users. Edit: We now believe it was because he was in more than 10 groups. Temporarily banning him kicked him out and now he can't rejoin.

It'd actually be nice to have the Articles/FAQ/Links pages return in some fashion, though they aren't used by every group out there. Beyond that, having titles return is a big one or something similar since most group admins, myself included, use them to form an investment system where more trusted/veteran members fall into upper classes. Personally, I'd love to see the inclusion of a badge system where you can adorn a member of your group with small symbols to show their dedication or actions in group. (ex: been to 5 gamenights? Get one!) Obviously the conditions for these would be set by leaders, but it'd be pretty cool.

I made these remarks yesterday in Deejs thread, but never got a reply, hopefully he sees it meow Oh look he did.

Edited by Spartan in Oslo: 1/11/2013 2:45:38 PMYeah! The changes to groups are my only real issue with the new layout. -Where is all my freakin CONTENT?? :S Articles, news, posts, settings.. So much is just gone! Why? One thing is the lost content, which will take many hours to rewrite, but another thing is that the current options for groups are not enough by far! If I wanted my group to work like a facebook group or twitter, I would have made it in facebook or twitter already! I need the roles and admin tools from the old setup to run my group! The old setup was JUST enough! Im sorry if my post doesn't seem like constructive feedback, but these changes are tying up the hands of my team. I'll have to recreate my entire group on another website if the groups layout here will stay like this.

Group forum tags: it's nice that we can tag threads in private groups; however, if those threads are not public, they appear to be useless. I would like to be able to see a list of group-specific tags.

I would like to remark that pinned topics from the old Bnet seem to be reappearing under the 'about' section for the group. Unfortunately, not having full admin privileges is preventing me from editing my posts there. At least they're somewhere, although the links to other threads don't work anymore, and I can't change them.
-
agreed. There are some good changes like having them more public (for those that need it) and group avatars, but otherwise browsing the forums, members, and options are way behind. And where all the pinned threads/articles go?!
-
As well as that, all previous mods and admins have been demoted. This has now locked me out of my own damned group, I can't moderate it so idiots can run rampant, because the alt which also has power is locked down thanks to Hotmail. Oh, and whoever the acting admin of a group was BEFORE the update, now apparently founded the group. And thousands of old threads have been wiped clean. What the hell happened, they had best be there somewhere...

These are pretty much my concerns as well. I'll be honest, it is a little disappointing seeing how many features were taken away from groups. I was under the impression that groups were going to be a huge focus for the new site, though I know that this is just the Beta. Here's to hoping that groups get some loving here soon.
-
Edited by Spawn: 1/11/2013 12:56:30 AMHuge concerns for myself as well. Also, what happened to the news blog that each private group had? I used this quite frequently for over a few years, I'd be disappointed to see that all that doesn't exist anymore.
-
Are private group posts visible on the public forum?
-
- Only one level of admin (Preferred options to turn on/off certain rights)
As a group member with partial admin rights: this.
- Pinned topics! (I know that others have mentioned this and it will hopefully be back, but it had to be stated.)
For groups that have outside game servers and particular rules, this is big. New members will be lost. I feel like, in an attempt to make groups more accessible, they have been made less unique. Perhaps it will feel a lot better when titles come back, but until then it just feels wrong. Hopefully, this thread gets the attention of the devs. These are things that are urgent for a lot of groups.
-
I'd also like the ability to see who leaves the group again, not just who joins...
-
Something else I'd really like: Private group post reporting/ report queue for moderators and admins
-
I agree with pretty much everything you mentioned. As opposed to some threads being missing entirely, I've noticed that at least one of my threads in a group remains, but no longer with any replies (it had over 10,000), which is rather odd.
-
Pretty much second all of this. We've taken about four steps back in terms of group management.
-
Solid thread; I second everything
-
I'm sure they'll all be added later. Really need admin powers back. >.<
