Each generation less and less people are becoming religious (in America at least). People are recognizing science and calculable, observable facts, rather than words from thousands of years ago on absurd stuff.
Religion as a concept is outdated, and it's inevitable that eventually, it will be gone from most developed countries. The question is, when do you think it'll happen?
-
Actually your analogy is incorrect. More and more people are acquiring religion of one form or another. Protestants are in seemingly in decline and atheism and agnostics are on the rise, but that is only in the western world. In the eastern world, religion is paramount in their entire way of life, and they are aggressively promoting their faith.

lol at the op's ignorance

How is this in both Bungie and Offtopic?

Edited by Son of Chakas: 1/19/2013 5:32:39 AMWithout religion there is no morality. People will begin to think that if there is no higher power judging them and if they are their own, then who is to say what's right and wrong. Right and wrong will be blurred as they decide what each on is for themselves. They will think they are the gods of their own lives and basic morals will diminish over the years until society is just a mess. Some may try to maintain their human decency but they will be outweighed by those who don't. I'm not saying this will happen all of a sudden. I mean over a time-frame of decades or maybe even a century or two if religion is abolished. NOTE: This is my OPINION.

Edited by ABSJellyFish: 1/19/2013 6:35:24 PMHonestly, I think there will always be some form of belief in that there is a higher being, or any other belief, like saying death is a new beginning. It cannot die, I guess. Source: I am a Unitologist.

Discussions about religion have the potential to be enlightening, inspirational and very informative for people on all stances of the issue. Then people like you come along, and just insult the lifestyle of billions of people and probably feel very good about yourself.
-
Never. To think something that has influenced so many lives throughout history will cease existing seems silly. There will always be those who follow a particular religion.
-
Teh puma hopes it's sooner, rather than later. The quicker it's gone the better we can push the human race on a course that is actually half decent.
-
Never. There will always be religion. People are stupid like that.
-
Still going strong after thousands of years, I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon.
-
Well in England tons of people believe religion/God rather than the "random explosion poof universe*. (I believe in God to) It won't die out till it is actually proved with very strong Evidence. Troll thread rating: 2/10 -made me laugh and comment.
-
lol militant atheists. And this is why religious and political discussions should be ban worthy.
-
Oh yay, another troll. 0/10
-
You really have to try harder than this. This is 4chan tier sad trolling.
-
The truth shouldn't be abolished
-
Hm...as much as I despise certain religions, I hope not all of them will be abolished. Regardless of how advanced our race becomes, I'd rather not have the spiritual aspect of us be completely abandoned.
-
The pursue of spirituality and one's self is not what I dislike in religion and I hope that even in the future people will question their morality, spirituality and self-existence outside the borders of science and logic.
-
Spirituality will definitely remain for a very long time, but hopefully organized religion goes away soon.
-
Inevitable that it will eventually be gone from most developed countries? Haha. You have waaaaaaaaaaaaay more faith in the average intelligence of people than I do. I think religion will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, evereverever, eeeeeeeeeever go away.
-
Abolished? What? Do you know what that means?
-
Hopefully never
-
The title is misleading... OT: Never

Edited by ROBERTO jh: 1/19/2013 4:27:40 AMIt is a natural human urge to feel a sense of belonging, of purpose, matched only by our need to feel the love of a parent in our darkest hour. Humans use religion as a means to fill the void they feel in the world, religion will never go away.
-
It won't, it may become a minority but it will never disappear.
-
It won't, it'll eventually become myths but won't be completely abolished. Every religion eventually becomes mythology. it's only a matter of time for that to happen to the top religions of today...
-
Never. It will change just like anything else, but I don't think it will be abolished completely.
