Official League of Legends discussion thread

Thought we could have one, since more members of MBT are starting to play. You know how these things work. For those that don't know or are interested, league of legends is a free online game where you fight in arenas on teams, trying to destroy the enemy base. Its that RTS-styled field of view, but your champion has skills. Its not an RPG, its not an RTS. Its fun. leagueoflegends.com Epic Push in a 4v5 match by Me and Dan and Theo [Edited on 01.14.2012 11:54 AM PST]

  • Wow, nice job Suns. Anyone know a good but cheap mouse (preferably wireless)? The little lense for the lazor is broken on mine, so it sometimes flips out and goes where it wants

I feel so bad. I disconnected 4 times because of my internet. Once because LoL crashed. And then both of my mouses died. It was ridiculous.

  • 16/1/6 3v5 pretty much the whole game. Gavin was having internet and mouse problems and our Shaco quit at level 9, still crapped all over this Fiora and Graves solo top. We almost won, but then our Graves pulled a straight up retard which led to me and our Ryze dying. Ryze went beast too something like 21/3/14.

  • Like others said above. You're getting a grip on supports pretty well. Try Soraka and Sona and Taric, they are also relatively easy. Some more difficult ones are Zilean, Kayle, Lulu, etc, mainly because if you -blam!- up their ults, you lose a large portion of their usefullness. Supports Standard Janna (shield, toss up, slow, aoe push+heal) Sona (heal, damage buff, speed buff/slow, aoe stun) Soraka (tonsof heals, full team heal, mana-giver, silence) Tanky Taric (defensive buff, ranged stun, heal, damage buff) Alistar (Knockup+stun, push, aoe heal) Leona (stun, damage boosting, aoe slow/stun) Ult-Reliant/Damage Zilean (revives, ranged harrass, speed buff/slow) Kayle (invincibility, slow, MR debuff, heal+speedbuff) Lux (duo-snare, "aoe"-shield, aoe slow, damage ult) High difficulty/Different style Orianna (shield, aoe slow, aoe pull/push, some damage) Karma (shield/aoe damage, aoe damage/heal, speed buff/slow) Teemo (ward as skill, blind, some damage) Galio (defensive buff, speedbuff, aoe slow, aoe taunt) Nidalee (large poke damage, heal+attackspeedbuff, halfwards) Lulu (shield, speed+AP buff, maxHPbuff, small knockback, slow) Probably forgot some [Edited on 06.22.2012 2:45 PM PDT]

Vishra and Will both owe me big time.
Gavin, for such a new/low level player, you're getting really good at supporting with Janna. I'd like to see you try new supports, but I understand the importance of mastering one character at your level. I did the same thing. But like I said I'm very impressed with your field sense and your understanding of supporting. You've helped to secure me kills many times, and saved my life quite a bit as well.
You have no idea lmao. Robbed Karthus of two ult kills with his shield, was hilarious. Also, things that I found out that I love. Vlad gets to escape Karthus' ult with Sanguine Pool. My love for him has increased even more. Gavin, you're made for support. You understand the role, and it fits your playstyle well. I wouldn't mind seeing you branch into others such as Taric or Soraka, but I know the feeling of sticking with a champion ( I only have 3 I truly like playing atm). I think once you get the hang of the more difficult support tasks like warding, you'll be a top-notch support player.

  • Theres nothing wrong with getting assists, especially if you are the teams tank or support. Most of the kills should be going to the AP Carry and the AD Carry (a.k.a mid and bot lane) because they provide the most use to the team when they have their full build. Fed tanks are cool, but because a lot of their utility they gain through CC and annoying-damage, they don't necessarily need as much money. Same reason supports don't need money either. Sure getting more AP would help Janna's shield be stronger, but overall the money is better spent on the AD carry, who is dishing out most of the damage for the team. Assuming your team follows the meta, order of fed-ness should go... 1. AD Carry 2. AP Carry 3. Bruiser 4. Tank 5. Support Obviously those can mix around, like how Alistar can both tank and support and whatnont. But in general, thats the order. AD carries get almost all of their utility via damage, and by increasing their AD they not only increase damage on basic attacks, but also on some of their spells too. AP Carries need the next most because they gain most of their utility from damage. But as a caster, some of their abilities may just bring more CC to the table, like Anivia Wall, Viktor Stunfield, etc. Bruisers still need money since they are a hybrid between tankyness and damage, as they fill in for the AD carry/Tank if they are not present at a fight. They usually have some cc, but most of them have good base-stats to the point where they will snowball pretty well even if they don't get fed a ton of kills Tanks, like I said before, gain most of their use off of their CC and skills, and their natural tankstats. So while they do want money like bruisers, they get enough from assists and a GoldPer10 item. Supports need basically no money. Any of their money goes towards the team, not themselfs. So the main things they need to buy are GoldPer10's which lets them buy more Aura Items, Active Items, and WardsWardsWards, with the occasional oracles. Besides, kills don't give you that much money compared to how much good farming can give you. Since you play mostly Garen Suns, you can just sit in lane all day with your passive, never have to worry about mana, and just farm. Assists and the occasional kills with your ult should be good enough. And TJ's analysis is pretty accurate IMO. Except he is a scrub, not me :P

  • Suns - you obviously do well with Garen. Most of it is decision making and skill, but some of it I can attribute to the playstyle of the character. I do agree that Garen is an easy champ to play. I've really never had a negative K/D game with him. He reason you do well is that you build 100% tank, and then are able to KS wih your ultimate. This leads to absurd K/D ratios, like 11/1. In reality, your carries are doing most of the damage and you're just cleaning the kills up. Don't take this as criticism or as a complaint. It's more of just an observation. Like I said you do well and that's good. If we keep winning I don't mind. I was just pointing out why Garen is an easy play and why your build works. TJ I agree with your sentiments for the most part. I love to play a risk/reward game and sometimes it works in my favor and other times it does not, and when it doesn't, it makes me look like a dumbass though. The arguing is really irrelevant though. I'm not the only one arguing so your can't pin it all on me. Often times I'm just trying to explain how some decisions could have worked out in our favor, or how they are, in theory useful or beneficial. But yes, I do sometimes stick to a strat no matter how the game is going, which is foolish, as league is completely a situational game.

  • I'm going to be completely honest here. Anyone who has joined LoL semi-recently is still a noob. Sure, you may do well at your current level against others, but becoming good takes a lot more time than just hitting level 30. There's a reason Alec and I stomp on people when we play with you guys most of the time. It's hardly a difference in summoner level, it's a difference in pure experience. Point is I'm tired of people arguing about strategy in game and screw ups. You're all still nubcaeks so just get over it and play. Here is my unbiased ranking of the people currently playing (except Alec and I cause that's no contest): 1. Dan -Only play bot, but I always see you do pretty well. One thing I think you could work on is being a bit more aggressive in the lane. Farm is good, you just needs the poke now. Also, try expanding to other roles. They're really fun. 2. Suns -You only play top and I've seen you win pretty much every time. However, Garen is OP and easy as -blam!- to play so take that into consideration. I believe you could get used to other roles pretty easily if you tried. 3. Theo -You've learned every role which is great, but you really do make a lot of (for lack of a better word) stupid ass choices. Then you sit and argue about it with someone. Just accept it when you're wrong and take the critique. It will make you a lot better. LoL is all situational. Think before you move. 4. Gavin -From what I've seen you are picking up on good strategies pretty quickly. Basically you just need time to just get more acclimated to the game. 5. Vishra -I've seen you play well. You can land your lux skills which is great, but like Theo there's just some bad choices being made. Just keep your map awareness up and don't get too ballsy. Haven't played with anyone else as far as I remember. Don't take all this as an insult. I mean it only to improve your LoL experience. P.S. Alec is a scrub.

  • Well there shouldnt really be a "jack of all trades". A good league player may have a role that they play better than other roles, but they should be able to decently play all others enough where they can fill the spot on the team. Like how I am great at AP Mids, but I can play anything else good too. TLDR; A good league player can play all roles

  • Not really a Jack of All Trades, more like well-rounded. And I also dislike playing with everyone because I think I have sunk down to a lower Normal ELO, like my teams recently don't follow meta ever lol

  • Seeing as how I can play literally any position effectively enough to be as a use to the team, I don't care what other players do, as long as we have a strong team composition (following the meta). For those of you that don't know what the meta is, it's a solo-top, usually tank or off-tank dps, a jungler fulfilling the same role, an AP caster mid, a support or support-tank bot supporting a Ranged AD Carry. I like to consider myself a Jack of all trades but a master of none. I generally have good games, but sometimes I struggle. More so than Suns or Gavin, but I attribute that to th fact they play generally one type of character (really only one character), and have essentially mastered them. I encourage Suns and Gavin to branch out and try different characters not because I want them to play different roles, but because I want them to experience League of Legends in different ways and find new ways to enjoy the game so it doesn't get stale. I recall that you enjoyed Gangplank, right Suns?
