Official League of Legends discussion thread

Thought we could have one, since more members of MBT are starting to play. You know how these things work. For those that don't know or are interested, league of legends is a free online game where you fight in arenas on teams, trying to destroy the enemy base. Its that RTS-styled field of view, but your champion has skills. Its not an RPG, its not an RTS. Sure, it can work, sometimes, but going full support is much more beneficial to the whole team. It always has been. [/quote] A lot of CD reduction items stack AP anyways. For example, as Sona, after acquiring Shurelya's, Heart of Gold, and some other CD stuff, it doesn't hurt to grab Rabadon's. [Edited on 07.02.2012 4:06 PM PDT]

  • Finally decided I was at a point with Ahri where I felt comfortable with trying smartcasting, as I feel I'm to a point where I know her in and out. And damn, it's good. Real good. Comboing off twice as fast is absurd, and I feel like it makes lane a MUCH easier thing to win than before since I can get everything off at such high speeds. You people need to get on and play with me!

  • Because building AP may help your shield and your heals more powerful, but unless you have a large amount of income coming in (getting kills or lots of minion kills, which don't happen for supports), it will scale very slowly. The damage you will put out will be very minimal and the shields and the heals will not be much stronger than the base. Even when you do build AP, the items you build are very weak and do not help your abilities as much as they could. If you go AP, go all out. Get a deathcap as your second or third item. Otherwise it's not worth it. You either go full support or full ap. Never in between. The benefits of going full support is giving the team extra auras and utility. Support masteries give you shorter cool downs on summoner spells and abilities. Getting items like sherylias reverie and randuins omen give you activation spells that benefit the whole team. Aura items like frozen heart, aegis of the legion, and will of the ancients give the whole team useful bonuses. All of these items are cheaper and easier to obtain when using gold per ten items and not farming. It makes getting wards a lot More reasonable too. Going full support is definitely more reasonable and is overall more useful to the team.

    That still doesn't make sense to me. The support mastery gives me mana and armor. That's about it. If I went AP, I could give stronger shields and heals. While I am building my character, I will still buy wards and other items that a support would buy. Someone needs to explain how the support mastery is superior to the AP mastery.

[/quote] What are you going to do with something like 6% damage increase or armor pen? You aren't supposed to be doing much damage with a support; you get off potshots when you can, but your main job is to keep the carries up. Think of the system most MMOs have: there is a tank, multiple DPS players, and a healer or two. The tank eats the damage from the enemies, the dps players concentrate on doing as much damage as possible, and the healer keeps everyone up. You are the healer, Suns/Theo are the tank depending on champs, and Dan and I are the DPS. Ideally, our front line (Suns/Theo) tie the other team up in combat and keep them from us other three, while Dan and I pour out damage from the edges. You keep Theo/Suns up, and if Dan or I start getting smacked around, you keep us up. Support masteries help increase your healing, give CDR, increase your mana pool, and tons of other things that let you do your role better.

  • Havent had a chance to get on much, sorry guys. Soraka is great btw. I do sometimes get the "useless" feeling, which is why I only play her when I know my team wont completely suck. But if you go AP-ish on her, your Ult + Summoner Heal + Heal does a -blam!- ton of healing, and giving your AD/AP carries a whole new HP bar is a pretty great thing.

But lategame when I'm full build, or need that 6th slot for a piece of an item, I'm not going to sacrifice damage or survivability for a ward slot. No offense, but supports are going to be farther back in a fight, and they usually shouldnt need that power/health. So yes, we'll all help with ward placement, but just be aware that the later the game goes, the more it's going to ride on you for wards. So we need to try the 5 teleport strat tonight.     Also guys, please please please help me out more with wards. I think I am getting better at placing wards, using CV, and anti-warding. But it feels like only one or two of you will be placing wards especially in the late game. I know it's my job. I'm well aware of it. But it really sets me back big time when I am trying to get builds that keep me alive and on the field longer. Plus the vision wards are for your benefit as well. Prevent ganks and dominate the field at all times with eyes on.

  • You did well with Kayle. However, that said, don't give up on Soraka. Youre still learning her, and she is a very powerful support. If played correctly, she and the AD Carry can dominate bot with little resistance. It is very hard to push that combo out of lane. If you want to try and learn another team support like Janna is, try Sona. I haven't seen you play her yet. I find her to be very fun and useful to the whole team. And she can stun a whole team which is super effective in team fights. She also has a slow with her power chords. I think her CC is in line with Janna's, though the support with the most CC is Alistar. You should definitely try him too.
