What were your favorite and least favorite enemies (to fight) in the (Bungie) Halo Games?

Favorite: Halo 1 Flood Surprising as it is, I really think they were my favorite. There was something about the way the battles went that was... poetic? I don't know. There were never lulls in the fight, but you always had an option to create breathing room (pop a carrier form, set off that stack of grenades that's been piling up, fire the shotgun between groups), which created some of the best flow the series had. You could go for minutes without taking damage, but slip up once and it would all be for nothing. I guess the Flood were the only enemy that really seemed as chaotic as the Master Chief was. Least Favorite: Halo 2 Drones. -It was easy enough to avoid getting killed by them, but you had to drop them all to progress (with one exception being on The Great Journey, as this was the only time you encountered them as the Arbiter, and could just cloak past), which generally meant you performed the cover-shoot-wait dance for about 45 seconds. -Between their numbers, the distance they hovered at, and how much damage they could take, an encounter would generally drain most of your BR/Carbine shots. On top of this, there was no way to use shots more efficiently. Even the much-maligned Halo 2 Brutes were four-shot kills if you got the hang of it. In fact, this was the only Halo 2 Covenant enemy that couldn't be headshotted (with the exception of the hunters) by precision weapons. I'd often find it more expedient to use my sniper ammo on them than on "tougher" troops. I was extremely glad to see headshots become possible in Reach. I also remember reading in a magazine before launch that some drones would carry beam rifles. That would have been hell.

  • Loved: - Halo CE Elites (still my favourite enemy AI of all time). - ODST Hunters (always an "oh shit!" moment whenever they show up on Legendary). - ODST Brutes (subtle changes to their AI made them a pretty big step-up from their disappointing presence in Halo 2 and 3). - Promethean-Knights ([i]only[/i] on difficulties lower than Heroic). Hated: - Halo 2 Brutes (-blam!- these pricks). - Halo 2 Jackal Snipers (OH MY -blam!-ING GOD, 1 SHOT TO THE -blam!-ING TOE AND I HAVE TO RESTART FROM MILES BACK!). - ODST Drones (-blam!- these pricks). - Reach Elites (boring to fight and Concussion Rifle was terrible). - Halo 3 Ranged Forms (you'll find these in a Dictionary under the definition of 'wankers'). - Reach Engineers (lacked the strategic value they had in ODST). - Halo 4's Watchers (don't even need to explain this one).

    Loved: CE Elite - engaging, never felt cheap CE Grunt - appearance, dialogue, animations, much to love about them CE Elite Zealot - aggressive, freeroaming, pretty fast CE Flood - aggressive, freeroaming, can be pretty fast CE Hunter - aggressive, freeroaming, pretty fast H2 Grunt - with Catch skull on, their grenade spam rate is insane ODST Brute - they were more smarter with their equipment ODST Hunter - I like how their cannons and armor color varied. Also, the H3 Hunter is a good template for a Hunter, it just needed a little more speed Reach Drone - can be headshotted, they have distinct appearances Hated: H2 Flood - Infection Forms are overpowered, Carrier Forms are pathetic, Combat Forms are overpowered (and not because of their driving ability or homing rocket launcher) H3 Flood - the worst iteration of Flood. Also, Pure Forms are atrocious H2 Drones - the worst iteration of Drones ODST Drones - yeah high ranking Drones have shields. That's a really interesting change... H2 Brute - they had the speed but they lacked the brains H3 Brute - they had half a brain and lacked the speed Reach Elite - cheap Reach Brute - pathetic Reach Skirmisher - Drone reincarnate any Hunter after CE - roadblocks any Jackal after CE - moving shields any Engineer - very uninteresting, they just float there and do nothing. Watchers are cowardly but at least they try to save their own skins

  • Favorite: Elites (1, 2, reach) Least favorite: Brutes and drones from Halo2

  • Favorite was probably hunters. There was always a violent elegance to fighting them, especially if no other enemies were around to -blam!- it up. You, the quicker, weaker opponent trying to coax them into charging and jockeying for position to hit their backs and them, the lumbering near invincible tanks, trying to smear you across the floor with their shields. Least favorite are drones by far. They're just stupid, ugly and annoying.

  • Favourite would Elites from any game, except H4 ofcourse. Least favourite would either be Drones or Brutes, the former is annoying (Drones in ODST firefight serious wtf) and the latter is just flat out boring.

      loathed fighting the flood in the first 3 games and the prometheans in H4. Love Halo 2 Elites and ODST Brutes. For some reason ODST Brutes were more interesting in Firefight.
