Global warming: Do you take it seriously?

What's your opinion on global warming and humans' impact on Earth's climate. 2012 was the hottest year ever in the U.S. and was the 9th hottest year globally. So what do you think about humans and global warming, what should we be doing?

  • Of course. Denying it would be saying that I know more about environmental science and climate science than environmental scientists and climate scientists do...which I do not.

      • Honestly, I won't really get the shit end of the stick, and I actually enjoy the higher temperatures, so I'm apathetic.

      • -Humans have likely caused a Climate spike -Humans are unlikely to reduce CO2 output -Humans will leave things till the last minute We can't stop climate change, unfortunately I have to say its time to... ADAPT

      • I take the concept of climate change as yet another reason to be more conscious and conscientious about my daily and major choices in life. I do my best to try to balance (what I consider to be appropriate) decisions to reduce my consumption/impact and how much those choices cause to my surroundings that I share with others and leave for our descendants. I can't control the weather, and I don't know if my own personal actions can have any effect on climate (I am VERY aware of the differences between climate and weather, not so many people are). But if I can make a conscious effort that could improve either? I don't see a downside to making such an effort. I've only got a few more decades left on this planet, I don't have any children, but I don't have a problem with the idea of trying not to leave "too much" of a mess for the folks who follow me. They are gonna blame, hate and judge the previous generations based on their own values and point of view, just like we do today. If they decide that I was frivolous, decadent, stupid, wastefull, ignorant, or malicious... well, we think that of our predecessors, why would we be exempt from the same?

        • No not really. Reason why: "No one" seems to take Nuclear Power as a alternative to fossil fuels, that's the only potent power source that will be able to keep up with the growing demand for electricity. IMO Nuclear is the only power source that I support to replace oil or coal. Wind, solar, water, etc are all great, but they fall under more of a supplement to the power grid.

          • I've heard too much evidence that supports and denounces global warming, so I'm not sure what to trust.

          • As long as China exists, any initiatives we (the U.S.) take to "combat" climate change don't mean a damn thing.

            • There is a mountain of evidence showing it exists and that humans are likely to blame. I trust NASA scientists more than my own "common sense" or a Faux News commentator. Do I take it seriously anymore? No. As a species we seem to be stuck in a mode where we just want to talk about if it exists at all. Its like a family arguing in a burning house over whether there is a fire and who started it. Well, if we are too stupid to get out of the house, we deserve to die.

Since 1880, the average temperature of the earth has risen less than 2 degrees. EDIT: 2 degrees

                  • When people burn fuels, carbon dioxide is not the only gas released. Many other gasses are released as well. Some of these gasses tend to reflect light rather than absorb it. This actually reduces the amount of energy absorbed by Earth, causing a cooling effect. It could be that any increase in the greenhouse effect due to human-produced carbon dioxide is offset by the cooling caused by the other chemicals associated with human activity.

                      • All the carbon dioxide produced by human activity is approximately 3% of the carbon dioxide produced by the natural processes that emit carbon dioxide into the air.

                      • no, global warming is a natural function of the earth, there is nothing we can do to stop it so why would i be worried about it?
