Jason schrier on studios meeting milestones

“PlayStation has became far more strict in terms of studios meeting milestones because they don’t want another flop like Concord. It’s part of the reason Physint was cancelled” When they say concord think the Concordian trilogy of flops… there’s no way they green-light a huge Destiny project given what’s happened recently. The costs and time scale required are just not worth another marathon (or larger) sized flop… do we have faith that bungie would be able to meet strict milestones anyway? They have always struggled in the past :(

  • Funny that they let go Kojima when there are other things to let go like bungie.
But imagine destiny 3 made by Hideo Kojima
• Less of a concern if they hand it off to another studio, downtime is needed to update the Tiger engine and get new people up to speed and proficient with it. That engine is what made the game possible, the whole game relies on tigers gameplay action style Marathon runs it, they still have a team who know it and worked with it on Destiny to help the new people with all degrees of technical know how.

      • Marathon only continues to spare Sonys blushes, I'm not convinced it will see out 2026. Once Marathon is taken offline, the sackings will restart and Bungie studios will disappear.

        • Yet they publicly say marathon is thriving, & is now at concordian numbers. The absolute best destiny fans can hope for is maybe they get to finish shattered cycle & see how it goes, but I doubt that given they've publicly dropped support & lots of players have now deleted accounts, lost interest, moved on for good,. But I think theres possibly weight behind creating a destiny game that includes all old content, maybe remastered or reworked, maybe cycled in and out to keep the game size small enough, maybe it's possible to put it all in & keep the size relatively small, it would be current gen only as a new game & sold as that as nearly all companies have now dropped old gen. I also don't buy the D1 remaster rumours as the game is quite small & I doubt it would do numbers but could be combined with D2 & put into the destiny game. Only reason I think it's possible is that the content is already built, I know for a fact they rebuilt D1 Venus a year or 2 back & were using it for new light 3.0 until plans changed, same engine, same Devs, so it wouldn't need the huge budget or the staff of a brand new game, & turnaround could be a lot faster, especially if as a lot of us think the deleted content of red war etc wasn't as far gone as we were lee to believe 😉 A lot of destiny Devs have just gone on a social media blackout saying they're going quiet for a while & they still have 400+ staff on huge wages & 2 dead games so they're working on something & if you're Sony you absolutely wouldn't trust them to make a new game but you'd absolutely trust them to make destiny content especially if it was low effort low risk, the black ops ports have showed people will accept & buy old content if it's brought forward . Me, I've bought mw4 & I'm going back to cod next month, so I'm probably gone forever, but many aren't

          • Ironically Physint is anything but a risk. Yes the gameplay will be unique, story likely absurd but you put a modern Metal Gear on a console and you’re selling millions of copies. Like Destiny, the only reason you don’t make enough money is if the overheads are too much or money is wasted in unnecessary areas.
