What is "Elitist" and "Gatekeeping" to people here?
It's not gatekeeping (from raiding) to have requirements for your fireteam and rejecting those who don't meet them by kicking them. That's normal.
There is no excuse for not making your own fireteam with like-minded inexperienced players who learn together or find a sherpa if you truly want to raid. [b][i][u]It's what EVERYONE who you're calling a gatekeeper and elitist did.[/u][/i][/b] We also have jobs and responsibilities. Wanting a smooth and fast run is our right since it's our fireteam.
No one is stopping you from raiding but you. Or it's your life situation. Regardless, it's not the fault of the people you call gatekeepers and elitists that you're in that situation. You can make a team with the people on the forum in the same boat as you but you refuse to for some reason. Which I find extremely weird.
We didn't have fireteam finder for years and it's shocking that people still question how they can even find a team in the first place. The fact that people who raid even exist proves that there is a way and it's the two options I said above. I had someone say "I can't wait until you guys leave so we can finally raid" as if they couldn't just make their own fireteam this entire time.

Even though you purchase and own destiny 2 and all dlc paid in full, without a ps+ subscription you cannot play online, use in game text chat, use fire team finder and many other features. To me this is the definitive definition of Elitism, and Gatekeeping. While on PC you only need to own the content for the game, and have an internet connection. The gaming industry is corrupt, and greedy. Gaming is no longer about the game and it's players, we are looked at like a piggy bank for these companies to be used as a quick cash grab. Enjoy your day guardians 🫡🍻

And you complain when you get folks who don't kwtd or can't complete an encounter first try. People are only human, take the time to teach them if you really want good folks ti join you. Raid Requirements are technically elitist and a form of gatekeeping, but who cares? Its semantics. Its your fireteam! Do what you want, and try not to be too much of a d*ck or else people won't like you.

I mean i always thought that whoever created the post has the choice of who can join and who cannot. If they dont want that person in the fireteam, boot em. Unless the post specifically mentions or shows they are willing to teach an activity i havent completed, i wont join. Seems simple to me.

Most especially if they use any kinda criteria to deny entry. Elitism will be what destroys online gaming communities. Ie 'experience required' but someone thats never done the activity joined the LFG then got kicked before screaming elitism or gatekeeping? For the 'Gatekeeping' aspect, you aren't restricted from Fireteam Finder, or the various third party resources. So the above is just a generalist thing with this.

Gatekeeping is just a term people throw around when their feelings are hurt. Basically, they're soft. If I can't do something in this game it's on me, not because of anyone else.

Not gatekeeping from the activity, just your team. And that’s okay. Gatekeeping isn’t a bad thing. Games like Destiny are great because of the feelings they invoke. Your experience is uniquely yours. Destiny feels larger and rewards matter more when you have aspirational content. Aspirational content doesn’t exist if there’s no barrier to entry. Playing and learning the game should be rewarding.

9 RepliesProblem is the elitists infect most raiding spaces now days. And in most cases they raise the goal posts for "gatekeeping". So in turn some players just put them together in the same boat. Like cool, you can solo flawless raids. Go j*** **f in the mirror. No one cares. I'd be much more impressed by someone saying they helped 5 new players learn a raid.

Simple solution for people who dont meet other requirements is just make your own LFG. People complain about people wanting experienced players being toxic meanwhile these same people will join an experienced players only group than run here to cry about it lol

2 RepliesGatekeeping is what Bungie did several times, by drip-feeding story quests across several weeks. There are no players gatekeeping others from doing anything, how would that even be possible.
