Still have my original D2 install disk, no more disks is a big risk for Sony in my opinion.
No disk drive in PS6? Can’t see as many purchasing it. PS5 is also my occasional Blu Ray Player, now what, just look at my disk collection of Games & Vids with nothing to plug them in to on my New PS6?
Sony, you need to give Players the ability to make their own USB Drive installable content if you’re going down this route or even make your own thumb drives for such. Either way, abandoning physical media and not permitting purchasers to make their own installable USB/Blu Ray disks is just shooting yourselves in both feet….twice!

They know it is, but they don’t care. The ultimate goal for this corporation is compliance through media ownership. They’ll sell you the illusion of ownership so as long as you conform to their media policies and vow never to violate their Terms of Service Agreement. This means that even your linked media accounts must never speak on behalf of civil rights or anything their agenda doesn’t conform with. They think they are finally in a position to gain control of their narrative this way. And until Big Tech is properly regulated, they are right in their perspective.

I agree that the move away from physical media is bad, but a lot of modern games are essentially physical licenses for a digital product, there's really not much difference between modern game discs and digital copies of a game. Nonetheless, I do agree that this whole situation with Sony is stupid as hell and I think that we should try and have physical copies of the games that are actually the game.

dosnt matter i need ps67 so i can play gta67 at lonch 676767

5 RepliesUnfortunately this has been the trajectory for a long time now. Physical games basically already don’t exist since most of the time they just trigger a download, and because games have been getting bigger and bigger they often wouldn’t even fit on a disc. The only major player still doing physical releases is Nintendo, but even that’s been scaled back since Switch 2 has introduced so many Game Key Cards. The fact current gen consoles are split between the ones with disc drives and the ones without should’ve been a big giveaway that this was the end goal. TBH idk what these companies are doing since if the RAM crisis continues much longer nobody will have the money for a new console anyway. I’m not paying upwards of a grand for an Xbox or PlayStation.

This is about greed and control. They want to have the user agreement say that we agree that it's okay to steal back our stuff. It's like my Xbox upgrade a couple of days ago. Agree or disagree and say offline or shut off my console. In other words agree or my $900 console is useless. Only new laws with stop this.

The issue isn't the removal of physical media. The issue, as always, is DRM and how users are allowed to access & control the content they own.
-
7 RepliesYour D2 disc is unplayable. It's a business choice to discontinue physical media and I don't fault Sony for making a pragmatic decision. I do fault them, and especially Bungie, for deleting paid content that was purchased in good faith. Laws need to be updated and the crooks prosecuted.

It's a sad inevitability that physical media is going away but it looks like Sony is betting on their digital-only platforms with their PS6 Console and Handheld. I wonder how much these devices and games are going to cost. And we don't even know what their future plans for monetization is going be to like. But this inevitability is happening during a bad time for Sony. Things are expensive; a certain percentage of consumers may have to value long term and choose PC over Playstation; some may want to check out XBOX's Gamepass and their claim that they may have a device to convert their disc digitally. Sony probably wants the mobile customer to choose their Handheld over their Nintendo Switch devices. That will be an interesting watch or battle or possible future of Sony Playstation. And if it doesn't go well, Sony better release an external disc drive. LOL And if it goes well for Sony ,,, Well, Sony always finds ways to piss of their customer. Don't buy movies from them! Don't leave your PS off for three years. Get your credit card ready! Peace! 🤣

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE

7 RepliesThis is kind of a normal way to move toward future. We dont watch VHS movies anymore either, you watch Netflix. But I understand the issue, you buy with real money so you are expected to own, but in this case it is not likely so, because you kinda rent the games now. See what happened with Destiny 2? We purchased all the games and no more future content and Destiny is gonna be shut down some day... See that youtube video about Bezos saying in the future gamers use cloud based systems to rent gamingpower, no more PC aka PERSONAL COMPUTER. Pay subsriction from everything and own NOTHING! Think abou that -blam!-... Big corporation greed, people not owning anything, the gap between the rich and the poor - you have no right to own anything, just pay rent.
-
4 RepliesAs someone who grew up in the 80’s and had to repurchase all my movies and music multiple times when the format changed, I see this as normal progression. However I can understand both sides of the argument, problem is every pre order for GTA 6 proves Sony right. A petition smaller than the D3 petition so far isn’t going to do anything when GTA 6 preorders are in the millions already.

Sadly today's generation are happy to own nothing and pay a sub to rent media! Apparently 80 to 85% of sales are digital on ps5. This has been in the pipeline for years tbh, I am guilty of buying digital but thats simply due to me not having the space to keep a massive library of games as I own around 2 thousand bluray and 4k films which most are limited edition collectors editions and such which has me needing 4 large shelving units or I would have a physical library of games. Sad time to be a console gamer tbh, I doubt they'll revert this and the only way to teach these scumbag corporations that power lies with the consumer is to boycott the ps6! You know that's not happening sadly as I do, guarantee the release of gta is the largest gaming release in history.... and it's a bloody code in a box but what can you do really?
-
2 RepliesI would like to now how much are we going to be paying for these new consoles and games.
-
In a generation or two it won't matter as by than those generations will be more used to digital and go for that for convenience. Same goes for Ai eventually the younger generations will be used to it and prefer it.

They chose Marathon over Destiny 2. They have absolutely no interest in listening to us.

Playstation needs an emergency intervention. Leadership needs changing asap

5 RepliesEdited by lonewolf-qc: 7/9/2026 12:03:02 AMYou do know, that you can buy a separate disc drive that you can install yourself for a PS5 that has no disc drive, so why couldn't they do the same for the PS6?
-
1 ReplyWhat people don't realize is that new blu rays are superior to streaming, at least with regards to sound fidelity. In most cases, you get much better sound via blu ray disc than you get via streaming. The video is technically better on blu ray, too, but its not a huge difference. All this to say... It sucks they are dropping the blu ray player.
-
8 RepliesI don't see the point buying a PS6 if I cant use my discs. 🤷♂️
-
5 RepliesJust think...if we had physical copies of destiny... Each expansion as a disk including the seasons... Even if it was released only after the next expansion started to account for updates and patches.... We could be playing the entirety of destiny today
-
I'm so glad I have a physical archive... And soon they will start killing accounts... first it will be inactivity... next they'll require an active subscription.... Pay or we delete everything... Straight up a hostile hostage situation with Sony holding the gun

19 RepliesI think a lot of people who harp on owning physical media vastly underestimate how many people no longer buy it and won't be impacted by this change at all, and I know they vastly overestimate the ill effects. I've been PC and driveless-PS5 based since the PS5 came out. I've not lost access to one game I purchased, all of which were digital only, or missed out on sales. I don't need my new console to play my old games because I still have the old console that runs them, and they work just fine. When they don't, I'll fix or replace them, both of which will be cheaper than buying the PS6, which I'm also probably skipping, but only because I just primarily only use PC now. It sucks for the guys that like to take pictures of their shelves, but otherwise, it's not as scary as people make it out to be. It's all the potential boogeymen that have never come to pass that people use to fearmonger.

Stay on ps4 & play pong forever 😆 new Xbox is digital only too.

The gaming industry is speeding like a bat out of hell right into a crash. And it’s coming far sooner than later.
-
1 ReplyNot a fan of the decision, but also have to remember that d2 disk is worthless. all is serves is a licence check. Same with nearly any modern game, i cant think of any game that runs off disk anymore.

11 RepliesWhy do people keep talking Sony stuff in these forums? Sony doesn't come here, and bungo's got no influence. Wrong place.
