Question regarding catalysts.
Don’t tell me the only way to obtain them is via exotic orders. I’m hoping that’s not the case. Do they even drop randomly from other activities?

Yes, I had one drop in the middle of an arena Ops yesterday.

Yes... Pinnacle Ops, and Solo Ops so far. I've gotten more random drops than exotic orders actually. I've gotten them at the end, and it seems "boss" type enemies can also drop them on the ground while you're playing. This isn't speculation; all the previous I can personally confirm.

None raid/dungeon catalysts have a VERY and I mean VERY low chance to drop from basic activities (I got the Concurrence and the Microcosm from activities). However exotic orders are the fastest

They drop random from activities. They are pretty rare though.

Exotic orders are probably the fastest way. I’ve got 4 so far from the orders and 0 dropped from strikes/crucible/gambit.

Some are obtainable via missions or raids only as well. Some are still bugged such as the praxic blade ones in the fire and ice mission.

Exotic Orders just guarantees a Catalyst. People have claimed they also drop from Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit activities, but they're extremely rare. Also, apparently Xur can sell them since he sold Chaparone's last week.

I had 3 drop from solo ops this morning - bastion, the last word and lament.

1 ReplyI had maybe 2 drop naturally from ops completions or world drop and the rest have been from orders. Unless the anarchy catalyst drops from the orders then I had gotten my last one yesterday evening. All I would have left is just the RaD drops

Catalyst drop from things like crucible, gambit, vanguard strikes, raids and dungeons. Personally have had a few drop from these playlists, but will say exotic orders will Guarantee a catalyst upon completion. As of this reply I only need 7 to 8 catalyst and have everything collected and done again. May RNG be on your side guardian 🍻🫡
