My granddad ain't a "gamer." Don't watch Twitch. Don't care about meta. But for a decade? Man's been in the Tower.
Started on D1 when I was still in school. Thing is... he always talked about not being able to raid. No group. Never felt good enough. So he just ran strikes. Patrols. Same solo stuff for years. 3,500 hours. A decade. Never complained once.
Never been anywhere near the meta. But he still logs in. Still runs strikes. Told him about June 9th. He just shrugged. Says he'll still be playing Destiny.
I'll be taking him on his first raid clears. First exotic mission clears. Clearing the stuff he's looked at for a decade but never touched. I'm gonna sit there. Let him be slow. Let him read every lore tab.
Couldn't afford it as a kid. Now I'm grown. Got a good deal. Finally get to join him.
So yeah. Thanks Bungie. This game gave him something to look forward to.
Eyes up. Call your granddad.

2 RepliesAs a grandad myself who sat with my daughter for many many hours, and now she's doing the same with her kids, this is a very poignant thread and brought a tear to my eye thinking of many happy memories. Good luck on June 9th....I'm sure your grandad will help you through the end game stuff lol 👍

1 ReplyIt’s to bad that there isn’t a way of showing to Bungie and Sony the importance of a game like Destiny and how it effects an older population. It’s done wonderfully with coping with Parkinson’s (tremors) for me. I am 74 and play mostly as a loner due to my gaming time.

2 RepliesI was just like your grandad till about 2 yrs ago, only solo stuff, never thought I could ever do a raid... now I teach them :) I still dont use Twitch or Discord, but I raid almost every night. Crota & KingsFall are my specialty. If you guys wanna add me, I'm glad to help. It wont be a "hurry up & drag you thru" type of carry... I definitely teach mechanics & let you explore the scenery if you want to. Not sure how old he is, but if the 6-man activity sounds overwhelming to jump right into, we can certainly start with some dungeon clears first.

Tell him he's based as -blam!-

2 RepliesWhat's raid #1 for him?

This is hard

Saw this and definitely had to say something: That's FANTASTIC. And since I'm basically in the same boat he is (except that I have no children and thus no grandchildren) - feel absolutely free to add me, myself, and I, as I'm all about helping people who've never cleared some of that stuff - even when I have yet to clear it myself. Name in-game is the same as here. And yes, fellow Guardians: call your grandparents! Even if they play no games at all, they'd probably love to hear from you!

1 ReplyI like your share.

1 ReplyGreat stuff guardian. If you ever need another old guardian to help with things and I'm on, hit me up.

Yep, my father in law is 77 and logging in on the 9th aswell. This game means more than some people can ever imagine

1 ReplyIf you need a knowledgeable/capable fire team member to help out, feel free to hit me up!

3 RepliesEnjoy the time you have with him, seriously. You’re lucky you could have something like this to mutually bond over. If you need help with doing any of those raids, let me know

5 RepliesEdited by BOOMBOXCOLLOSUSS: 6/1/2026 3:54:33 AMThat's what I'm talking about. This could very easily become the golden era of Destiny 2 or Destiny in general. Now that there won't be any new doodads to chase or firsts to get after June, we can finally have the chance as a community to slow down and be reasonable again. With no new carrots to chase we can finally reach back and pull some people forward instead of being constantly distracted and hurried all the time. Now's the time for guardians to step up and refocus on the rest of the community that has been left behind over the years. We can make this community stronger than ever and make it WORTHY of a sequel. We could be looking at the best years of Destiny yet. If you're a veteran guardian and your bored, then sherpa runs are an experience you'll never forget. They are challenging but even if you don't finish it's a community experience that you can give to others that's unforgettable.

1 ReplyBeen dead since '76, no way I can call gramps. Good thought though, enjoy your time with him, he will appreciate it!

1 ReplyGranddad signing in lol, not yet (but old enough & 3 adult daughters, so soon).... This is what bungie meant about an aging playerbase who stopped spending - there's a huge amount of us who play this game, who just enjoy doing everything but endgame, who usually play alone & are happy doing so. We are the people bungie kicked to the kerb from lightfall onwards, difficulty everywhere, forced needing teams for most things, that led into solo planets & that led into them not even having patrols or bounties. They took away the routines of people over 40 who had the old mentality of buy game & play until the next game comes around (in this case, expansion) - we don't spend enough, or rather have more common sense than to waste money on shiny nonsense. Well done you, you'll both remember it & will have an awesome time, he's in for a treat 👏
-
1 ReplyReally hope people keep playing, because I definitely plan to.
-
1 ReplySounds like me, but I don't do raids anymore, because the experience became...how quickly can we get this done. Where as I'm like the gramps, I want to admire the beauty of the world they built, understand the reality they built, understand the engine. You're a rare and awesome Guardian.

Give ‘em hell, guardian 🫡

6 RepliesBig respect. Do you have enough people to carry or do you need others?

1 ReplyThis old tortoise just pootles about the place…catching up on unfinished quests, triumphs and seals…been doing that since I returned from WarFrame (MR24 😎) after my exit after the Sunset debacle….iykyk 🤔 Since Lightfail and the ramping-up of difficulty levels, gatekeeping, throttling, timers, and the Neomuna Overtuna (N.O.) vibe…Casuals voted with their feet…again…and player numbers withered on the vine. The Few who screamed the loudest for harder / faster / more difficult stuff…are probably playing Marathon and loving it…and have abandoned Destiny altogether. Not all…but more than a few! Those Streamers who shed crocodile tears about the announcement about the end of D2 Support by Sony…most of whom had already bounced, and spread out to different games, were simply jumping on the ‘boo-hoo bandwagon’ to get clicks and likes…🧐 Watch the vid by Terror…he nailed it! 👈 For the rest of us loyal and long-suffering Guardians, we simply carried on…pootling about, doing the simple stuff, as usual. I reckon there’s a greater number of Casual players who play and enjoy the game…just like your Grandfather does…many with little ninjas to help with the tricky stuff…just like this old tortoise has with my own secret ninja who ain’t so little these days! 😁 Right…river cried…hopium puffed…come what may, eyes up, Guardians! 👍 That is all. Play Fair! Play Nice! Play for Fun! 👈 Murphy, my ghost, 👻 sends warm fuzzies to all the worker bees who’ve made Destiny possible since way back…and is sorry that the C Suite rats threw y’all under the bus, too…just like us. And a special thanks to all ‘little’ Ninjas everywhere! You know who you are…GGs 🫠 Ease Springs! 🫡 GO EASY ON MARATHON PLAYERS…IT’S JUST A GAME!

Call your granddad.
Good Idea. I will dig out my Ouija board today.
