The Bungie.net SMS verification for Destiny 2 Accounts seems to be failing before it even sends a code. Entering the phone number and clicking the "Send Code" button just results in "An unexpected error has occurred on Bungie's servers while trying to grab Destiny information. (1618)" popping up. A code never gets sent.
I've tried:
Performing the steps in an alternate browser, private browsing window, and a different device.
Doing the proposed workaround involving changing the emblem on all characters.
Doing the verification while the game is open, as well as with it closed and logged out.
Everything results in the same error. Are there any further updates on this issue? It seems to have been ongoing for well over a month now. It's worth noting that this is less for my account and more for a friend who is trying to play the game for the first time, and his experience has been less than stellar given that he ahs been unable to access most of the content that interests him in the Free to Play version of the game.
