The Coil is the worst activity in the game at the moment and the fact you guys have been pushing it week after week in pinnacles and now in this event makes it even worse! Just remove it! Increasing the rewards will not make players play it more!
When you oversimplified the game into portal activities, this is a symptom of that, people don’t want to spend 45min to 1hr in any single activity anymore. That era has come and gone! Let it!

1 ReplyL take, 30 minutes at best. One of the best activities they ve done. I guess skill issue. The only issue is Bungie needs to give a couple more revives when you start the activity.
-
Its one of the best activities left. Ran it a few times on Extinguish. You guys just need better builds/situational awareness.
-
Not sure about awefull but it does take a lot of time to do.

The Coil is actually great. I just hate the revive system. 1 revive amongst 3 randoms is psychotic manipulation. What makes it worse is that I've learned to survive and find extra lives in vases but when you have randoms who just can't hack it and then eat up your hard earned and discovered revives while now trying to survive against bosses with ridiculous health and bullet some mechanics and champions with little shield satellites running wild around them that are hard to kill while ultimately trying to stay alive it can feel absolutely insufferable. I would rather we got our own revives separate from each other.

1 ReplyThe Coil is fine…until the drone-protected enemies are bugged and the instance is Soft Locked. But apparently some players have been more fortunate than most to not experience the Soft Lock.
-
2 RepliesI disagree. The coil activity is simple, straightforward, and gives you a lot of loot. I will admit, it's an activity best with pre-made fireteams and not match making. You never know what people's intentions are when they join.
-
Honestly that was my first reaction too, but it’s really not that bad. Once you know the mechanics of each encounter you need a good build and, more difficult, two teammates who also know what they are doing and have good build. But when the planets align, it’s actually fun and you can safely put Pressure Cooker for extra points, as it’s very unlikely you’ll run out of time. I got lucky yesterday and found a good group with LFG and that went smooth.

Coil isn’t that bad I’ll gladly take it over contest of elders any day.

Edited by EVIL VENOM: 11/15/2025 8:06:39 PMThe coil is not awful. Challenging yes. If you make a build that generates your health or stacks damage on enemies, you will flush through enemies. For example: wishful ignorance gauntlets from the Titan will give you health back with the aspect of Banner of war. On top of that if you build your melee power up to 200 and your health at at least 100 you can do some serious damage in the coil Many other builds you need to experiment with. There are some good ones out there like the Hunter solar sub class equipped with blade barrage super, and gunpowder gamble aspect using the shards of Galanor gauntlets. Every time you use your super on a boss or a mini boss, majority of the knives will hit the enemy and you will get almost half of your super back instantly. If your hunter character is built properly, you will use that super several times, depending on your build

I hate endurance run activities about as much as timed activities. Onslaught worked only because it was a simple defense which is a staple of Destiny’s gameplay. Cheap traps and other mechanics are not worth the time commitment.
-
Does anyone want to run it with me? Missed the top 1% by ~5000 points(same with Proving Grounds), and there is no way I can do better than I did. Solo, ran out of time right before final path and lost all revives, barely survived the final room. So, if anyone wants to help, I'd appreciate it greatly.

6 RepliesThe coil is fine, it's nothing compared to contest of elders. You can literally BUY revives.
-
2 RepliesI don't know why everyone is complaining about The Coil when Contest of Elders exists in its current state. In The Coil, you can find revives in pots or buy them after you kill a "round" boss. Even on Ultimate I'm usually at or near the revive cap for the final encounter and that's including runs where my allies die repeatedly. Ultimate CoE is a nightmare. You get 1 revive for the entrance cell, and you get 1 additional revive for downing the cell boss. That's it; there are no more for the entire stinkin' run. You either do the whole thing flawlessly as a team, or you're not going to make it through. The fact that there's zero mention of CoE in their various "we're totally listening we promise" updates means their heads are still in the sand or social media (the only source of information they care about) is too busy screeching about one of the least offending Limited Revive activities (probably because they're only playing CoE on Master where there are tons of revives). Contest of Elders needs to be corrected way before Coil should be touched.

Let it![/quote] Easier than when it was first introduced due to powercreep and portal tweeks. I still like it, definitely got lucky on the 2 matchmade I runs I did. If you get matched with to a fireteam with even 1 person trying to learn the encounters on gm or above difficulty limited revives are confusing and over ly punishing. Complicated mechanics and with no buildup or real explanation of what to do in game is really not matchmaking friendly without in game mechanics suggestions and more generous revives. During season of the wish when it was introduced. Limited revives and fireteam scaling forced me to do solo runs for most of the season, GM nightfalls and activity rules like these turned away my more casual clanmates and fireteam friends. Recent Portal changes made activity and power grind alot better. But this much portal focus really feels like a mobile game without the pay to win.

1 ReplyCoil is good and fun pretty rewarding as well. In your opinion which activity is the best one?
-
2 RepliesThe coil is a pretty fun activity. I would have 1000% agreed with you if it still had the rewards and timer it was using when it was put into the portal. But now with the updated timer and reward increases it’s actually fairly rewarding. It’s a challenging activity don’t get me wrong. You need a strong load-out and a reasonable team. It’s not really a place for any experimental or goofy load-outs and the whole team suffers if one player Is dropping the ball repeatedly.
