Or was, I guess.
We've got PvPers and PvEers, and everything in between.
We've got casuals and sweats, and everything in between.
We've got elitists and the laid back, and everything in between.
We've got collectors and the spartan, and everything in between.
We've got puzzle platformers and fighters, and everything in between.
We've got veterans and blueberries, and everything in between.
And all of us are asking for different things.
"There's too much loot!"
"There's not too much loot enough!"
"There's too much grinding!"
"There's not enough grinding!"
"The game is way too easy!"
"The game is way too hard!"
We see this somewhat in other games, Borderlands 4 comes to mind right now, there's been some discourse about whether Legendary (Exotic) drop rates are too low or just right in BL4, but it's nothing like what we see in Destiny 2.
And, of course, objectivity is no help, because things like difficulty and "too much" or "too little" are largely subjective. There aren't that many objective things we can point to in D2; Unstable Cores being an absolute bear comes to mind, but there's not too much else (system-wise) we can all agree on.
I'd hate to be the person at Bungie who's responsible for parsing community sentiment, it's like that Simpsons episode "So you want a grounded, off the wall comedy that deals with real life issues and has aliens."
(This post is not in reference/response to anything, it's just me thinking out loud.)

2 RepliesMy ideal option list… Login…first question - ‘How do you want to play?’ Choose: Easy Normal Hard Harder Hardest Explore - no enemy engagement…good for hunting collectibles Exotic rewards tied to fun quests Decent loot via PvP or PvE pathways Main ‘flex’ differentiation via emblems only Let players play how they want! 👈 FWIW: the current system ain’t working…just look at the declining numbers…and listen to the players tell it like it is via the forums…even the ‘chosen few’ - popular YouTubers and Twitchers are jumping ship…🧐 Even Sony must be raging at their very costly and ultra-expensive lemon acquisition! 🤬 Looking Ahead: There’s got to be some very serious and meaningful changes made to the current game, otherwise, it’s game over. 🫤 Maybe the new people can make it happen…maybe not?! I get - Rome wasn’t built in a day, and all that, but…the standard BHQ Radio Silence thing also needs to change! 👈👈👈 Arc Raiders is getting lots of attention; the bit that appeals to me is how many gamers join forces to defeat the common enemy. I haven’t played it yet, though I am looking into it… I wonder if that ‘player engagement’ mentioned above, and done Destiny style, could be the new twist / hook for Marathon? 🤔 That would work if done right, methinks!? That is all. Play Fair! Play Nice! Don’t Quit / Cheat. 👈 Ease Slings! 🖖👻
"There's too much loot!" "There's not too much loot enough!"
You can ignore the "too much loot" part or you can take notes on why they complain about having too much loot
"There's too much grinding!" "There's not enough grinding!"
Not enough grinding? Give them something to grind and brag that isn't consequential to gameplay such as exclusive ornament or skin
Because that's the only thing they can brag about, kek

"The game is way too easy!" "The game is way too hard!"
That's why there's something called difficulty levels, those who want to play the game in a hard way can play that way with some cosmetics as "reward" while those who don't like difficulty can play on lower difficulty level without being left behind on performance

1 ReplyAgree, and it doesn’t help that these groups are undefined, to some I’m a sweat for others I’m a casual, when I’m just a dad with a not too demanding 9-5 playing only D2 in his spare time. I’m probably gonna give that helmet a try though. I suspect this is to be expected on a 10 year old active game like D2, the population is very diverse between the veteran, the new lights, people with ton of gear… I still believe the main differentiating factor between the groups is knowing how build crafting works. This makes such a big difference on how one enjoys the game, but it’s not explains at all and left to guess work. So many people find the game harder than it is as a results (even though it’s crazy hard sometimes).

This is why I say that Bungie should STOP listening to the "players" in the forums... half of them already quit or dont even engage with the actual game as much as they engage with social discussion ABOUT the game. I dont think they should listen to streamers either, but at least the streamers are actually playing the game & basically advertising it. Like other replies said : Bungie needs to pick a lane, decide what type of game they wanna be, and stick with it. The ppl who like it, will keep buying it. The ppl who dont - wont . The community is too diverse for everyone to be in agreement, so when Bungie tries to please everyone, they end up pleasing no one.

5 RepliesThat's why Bungie needs to pick a lane, and have the back bone to stick to it Do you think From Software flip flops on difficulty, no, they would tell you to get gud themselves And if your wanting a casual game to be more difficult, stop trying to change that game, and go play Elden Ring or Bloodborne if you enjoy beating your head against a wall Warframe has steel path and level cap for the try hards, and normal for the casuals, they have found perfect balance, but not every game can be warframe
