So, given how low the player count has repeatedly been, we shouldn't be surprised. But what is surprising is the mention of "downward revisions." In companies, this can be lowering budgets, lowering time-frames, and even lowering the workforce. So there's a VERY high chance that Destiny 2 as well as Bungie themselves are in their final moments of life. If budgets drop, we may not get changes or additions we want. If time-frames speed up, we'll get more bugs per patch and DLC. If time-frames slow down, we'll have longer periods of no content. If the workforce is reduced, we'll see less content or a smaller scale or worse bugs or some combination of these. Sony sees the poor choices that Bungie has made, and they are not investing further into them. So things will only get more strict from here until this franchise and studio is dead.
I've wanted both Bungie and Destiny 2 to get back to greater quality, but now I don't think that's possible and it makes me really sad. So everyone, enjoy what you have left for however longer it may last, because I think that time will feel very short.

5 RepliesNo surprise. Its creatively moribund now. The Star Wars cash-in shows how desperate or uninterested they really are.

I came here for the comments I used to play destiny so much, It got me a platinum trophy on my PSN. I loved the game. But as soon as the introduced sun setting it started killing it for me, then came the fortnight play on, of the monthly subscription base pay. The final straw was with the power resets I always had to regrind the whole game to raise my power level to play endgame content. Not to mention Bungie got this great idea in there head that they had to reinvent the game evey 6 months. It's not even the same game as it once was and player numbers so just that.

2 RepliesNothing is closing. Renegades is ready to go live. Worst case scenario there will be no new content after that but the game will remain playable just like D1 still is. But we will "worry" about it come summer.

6 RepliesI watched a Houndish video on the subject. He’s always fairly levelheaded. His take is that it’s not a good sign. I agree it does not look good. It makes me very sad, that this situation has been allowed to fester with incompetence at the top of Bungie for so long. I also think Sony is partly to blame. They’ve made a bad situation worse with either too many financial constraints, causing quality to go down and/or by not clearing all the dead wood out of the studio the moment they saw the ridiculous plans for EoF. Either way the clear majority of the blame lies at Bungie’s upper management’s door and a certain classic car enthusiast in particular.

38 RepliesBeen saying for a while we won’t be getting content after renegades…. Playerbase just isn’t there anymore

I'll be very surprised if Bungie still exists after Renegades and Marathon. They thought they could take Sony for a ride, and it's quickly biting them back.

1 ReplyWhen they come away with a new event - Call to Arms and you're stuck doing The -blam!- Salt Mines a dozen or so times until you can unlock the other two instances for it - The Proving Grounds and the other one I forget, instances we've all done a hundred times so why the -blam!- lock them behind a grind of the -blam!- Salt Mines? For crying out loud Bungie, read the room. People are tired of grinding the same stuff over and over so knowing that you just release a grind of The Salt Mines which in turn unlocks a grind of two other instances we've all done to death. I'm out of Call to Arms. There's no weapon I particlarly want and I'm not knocking my pan in doing an instance I don't even like.

Sony is eyeing the release of marathon before the end of the financial year in April 2026. All hands to the pump to save the studio, means some tough choices, and their only cash cow is Destiny 2 left on life support. People only tread water so long before they go, and once you put Destiny down, its hard to pick back up again The game had potential, but at some point that potential has to be shown. i used to joke about the only thing that would kill Destiny is Destiny itself. Sounds like this has come to pass

1 ReplySony bought a bag of fertilizer and then opened the bag and were surprised to find it full of bull sh!t. I mean, anyone who pays attention to the games history knows it's a bad investment, especially if you keep the executives on. The staff are hard workers but the executives are parasites. So that's what Sony got, a bag full of bull sh!t infested with parasites. It is technically fertilizer, but it is realistically bullsh!t.

1 ReplySalt Mines the most boring mission. "Oh, we see you shot those 3 Floating Curly Fries, oh, here kill these enemies before we unlock the door, oh, we need you too also lose 30 additional seconds while those door unlock. Make sure to shoot those two shield orbs that respawn a second later, wasting more time." "Oh, that fancy ornament we showed you in the preview, Yea, you can't get it till AFTER the event." Why would anyone grind out two weeks of this [Kablooie] event, you had three weeks of Fotl and 30 levels, that's fine 10 levels a week doable for those that don't play. Now, two weeks of this and 40 levels. Can anybody at Bungie count?

1 ReplySkill issue, Bungie and Sony management edition.

In the corporate world, that means they have been graphing this for a while and see no opportunities for reversal of the downward trend. Corporate heads don't 'wait and see' .. they've already made up their minds.. they're now most likely building an off-boarding plan for contract employees.. Then a shelving and plan for server support continuance and for how long.. D2 is most definitely shutting down

$204 M impairment should probably be $2.04 B.

Good.

Because apparently cooking and knitting classes are important spend their budget on

1 ReplyUnfortunately, Bungie and Sony are getting what they deserve for what they have done (or not done) to a what used to be one of the greatest online games ever made.

Bungo is getting more desperate than the lizards I see at truck stops. 🤡

3 RepliesI've been the opposite of a doomer on this topic for a long time. But now I think they are waiting until Marathon comes out to reveal no more updates to destiny. They can't do it right now as destiny is their only source of income.

18 RepliesEdited by jhermannITJ: 11/11/2025 6:17:30 PMNone of it is surprising, lol. That article is a hit piece. And what I'm interested in now... who funds/owns GamePost... who is paying those people? Here's the link to the Q2 transcript: https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/er/pdf/25q2_sonyspeech.pdf Credit: Sony Here's the quotes without mischaracterizing it, "Although performance varies by title, our live service games overall accounted for morethan40% of our first-party software revenue, similar to the previous quarter and are a recurring source of revenue. Regarding Destiny 2, partially due to changes in the competitive environment, the level of sales and user engagement have not reached the expectations we had at the time of the acquisition of Bungie, Inc. (“Bungie”). While we will continue to make improvements, we downwardly revised the business projection for the time being and recorded an impairment loss against a portion of the assets at Bungie". It's an obvious...redundant and generic analysis of the situation. Nothing suggests what the GamePost said...

Edited by SuperKingzach12: 11/11/2025 6:32:40 PMIf PlayStation does a price hike like Xbox did after call of duty 200 million dollar bungie is to blame for this and ps players will go after bungie

11 RepliesAnd again nothing in the article states destiny is close to shutting down.
