Destiny's Empty and Unused Destinations. HUGE missed opportunity

I feel like Destiny has lost its soul and that *thing* that made it feel fresh and unique. I think a big part of what is missing is Destiny feels like a solo game with no real reason to explore or stay in any world destination we have regardless of how great they look. Literally who is out there patrolling for fun anymore? I used to back in D1 and D2 vanilla but definitely not anymore. Here is my feedback/ideas to fix Destiny destinations so we can go back and not only revisit them, but GRIND them and stay on the planets for X reasons.(Bungie needs to figure out some enticing stuff that is worth grinding) Destination overhaul should include.... 1. Allow player interaction on destinations where you can meet other players in the wild again. Kepler feels so dead and boring. Think Venus in D1 where you would see a raid team opening the door. Or running into blueberries farming up some bounties and public events like in past destinations. 2. Add several world bosses per destination that require multiple people to defeat and they spawn randomly or after performing a specific mechanic in the area. Think like a heroic public event mechanic spawns a world boss. these bosses should also drop world specific loot and materials. Imagine farming a specific world boss with friends on the EDZ for for Devrim Kay levels to unlock a new seasonal vendor legendary weapon that requires EDZ currency to purchase, as an example. At this point I think the player base would grind world specific cosmetics even. Maybe they dont even need to create all new weapons/armor. But a world specific armor set with a special set bonus for that specific world make destroy our vaults but it could make the destination fun again. 3. Bring back the idea of adventures and lost sectors but allow players in the area to opt in and join you in said adventure or lost sector. I dont know the technical restrictions of this as everything is instance based in Destiny so I assume this is a far fetched dream. My official pitch I guess would be a non instance based adventure mission that would act as a large or better public event. 4. Finally rework world NPC vendors so they are WORTH grinding xp for and levelling for world specific loot. Think the vendor tracks like we had in the tower but require world specific currencies to purchase their wares. Their wares include world specific cosmetics, armor, and/or weapons. Repeating bounties, adventures, and/or lost sectors drops more rolls. Am I basically saying Destiny needs to lean into MMO features? Yes. Is it realistic? Not my problem to figure out. If Bungie wants Destiny to thrive again without just saying "Make a D3" I think they need to take some big swings. Making our destinations matter would be one solid step in making the content that is already in the game 1000x better.

  • You mean like the train tracks on Europa in Riis reborn that would make an excellent solo ops area? Or maybe the Forges of The Black Armoury? Entrance to the dark forest in the EDZ? The pyramid ship on the moon? List goes on and on. And you are right we have to much property that’s not being utilized. Just think how hard solo ops in the Dreaming City would bang if they still allowed interaction with tinctures of queensfoil but nobody would know until they tried it, just don’t tell us as players I’d rather the excitement of finding something rather than get the answer from Rick Khakis.
