Raids are not for you.

This guy gets it.
I’ve put this section into a spoiler because it’s certainly antagonised some of you and it’s detracting from the main point I’m trying to make here. In short Bungie has done to the raiding community, what they have done to the rest of the game. Made it for an increasingly small section of the smallest platform of the playerbase. What do I mean? Well for those that are the most skilled and are on PC. We all know that playing on M&K is the easiest way to play a shooter. I am unable to compete with guys that are as skilled as me but play on PC simply because they can do things faster and more accurately. Now I’m prepared to die on this particular opinion hill, I’m not saying that console players can’t do the raid mechanics, I have obviously been able to do them and others have also. What I’m saying is that the raid mechanics and general raid experience are tuned toward the PC player-base, because that is how they are designed and QA’d. Especially the Contest Modes. Just look at the lack of clears on consoles for the last two DP Contest Mode clears. I’m not overstating it that these raids are tuned toward PC players. Given the fact that they are by far the smallest platform the game is played on, I’m saying that shouldn’t be the case. All the raids should be designed and QA’d on consoles and by above average players rather than the exceptional players Bungie consistently rely on.
Now this video doesn’t really mention what I’ve talked about up there in the spoiler section, but he does go into detail about the overtuned raid mechanics and the lack of the ability to learn the basic mechanics in a normal raid like in D1. I’ve mentioned this before, years ago and I’ll mention it again. Raids should have a normal mode that has simpler mechanics or more forgiving mechanics, less ads or ads that are less tanky, unlimited revives (30/45sec timer) and a lower tier loot pool. Just like D1 did. In the context of D2, explorer raids but with the design philosophy of D1 raid difficulty Now I’m not an inexperienced raider. I’ve completed 960 raids between the two games, but since the spike in difficulty in most raids, I’ve simply not bothered to learn them. Why? Just like Big Damn Heroes says in his video. The lack of a teaching environment that allows learning to take place without the demoralising constant wiping and the unforgiving mechanics that require too much precision. Especially for console players. My increasing age and slowing twitch is also a consideration along with my health issues which also affect my ability to speak and think quickly. However I’m still able to do the raids when taught after doing the obligatory YouTube video watch on how to do the encounters. The 1% like Aztecross love that environment where you want to kill Les after 4 hours in and the pressure. And those Contest modes should still be available for them to have their fun. But most of us don’t play this game as a job. And we need a less stressful environment to initially learn the base raid mechanics so we can then tackle the more difficult version. In the end, making the best content in the game easier to access would have been a far better use of Bungie’s time than that -blam!--ing monstrosity that is the Portaloo, and would have increased the population of the raid community and given this game more longevity for a greater section of the community. But hell what do I know? Just a long time guardian that can’t stand the game after the Trash and Ire update and just stopped playing. Last thing. I miss raiding with my group of friends and having a laugh, I miss those clutch moments when one of us was the hero and got the raid done when most of us were dead. I miss Destiny, because the game that is currently available has none of the mystery or atmosphere that the game had before EoF launched.
