Raids are not for you.

This guy gets it.
I’ve put this section into a spoiler because it’s certainly antagonised some of you and it’s detracting from the main point I’m trying to make here. In short Bungie has done to the raiding community, what they have done to the rest of the game. Made it for an increasingly small section of the smallest platform of the playerbase. What do I mean? Well for those that are the most skilled and are on PC. We all know that playing on M&K is the easiest way to play a shooter. I am unable to compete with guys that are as skilled as me but play on PC simply because they can do things faster and more accurately. Now I’m prepared to die on this particular opinion hill, I’m not saying that console players can’t do the raid mechanics, I have obviously been able to do them and others have also. What I’m saying is that the raid mechanics and general raid experience are tuned toward the PC player-base, because that is how they are designed and QA’d. Especially the Contest Modes. Just look at the lack of clears on consoles for the last two DP Contest Mode clears. I’m not overstating it that these raids are tuned toward PC players. Given the fact that they are by far the smallest platform the game is played on, I’m saying that shouldn’t be the case. All the raids should be designed and QA’d on consoles and by above average players rather than the exceptional players Bungie consistently rely on.
Now this video doesn’t really mention what I’ve talked about up there in the spoiler section, but he does go into detail about the overtuned raid mechanics and the lack of the ability to learn the basic mechanics in a normal raid like in D1. I’ve mentioned this before, years ago and I’ll mention it again. Raids should have a normal mode that has simpler mechanics or more forgiving mechanics, less ads or ads that are less tanky, unlimited revives (30/45sec timer) and a lower tier loot pool. Just like D1 did. In the context of D2, explorer raids but with the design philosophy of D1 raid difficulty Now I’m not an inexperienced raider. I’ve completed 960 raids between the two games, but since the spike in difficulty in most raids, I’ve simply not bothered to learn them. Why? Just like Big Damn Heroes says in his video. The lack of a teaching environment that allows learning to take place without the demoralising constant wiping and the unforgiving mechanics that require too much precision. Especially for console players. My increasing age and slowing twitch is also a consideration along with my health issues which also affect my ability to speak and think quickly. However I’m still able to do the raids when taught after doing the obligatory YouTube video watch on how to do the encounters. The 1% like Aztecross love that environment where you want to kill Les after 4 hours in and the pressure. And those Contest modes should still be available for them to have their fun. But most of us don’t play this game as a job. And we need a less stressful environment to initially learn the base raid mechanics so we can then tackle the more difficult version. In the end, making the best content in the game easier to access would have been a far better use of Bungie’s time than that -blam!--ing monstrosity that is the Portaloo, and would have increased the population of the raid community and given this game more longevity for a greater section of the community. But hell what do I know? Just a long time guardian that can’t stand the game after the Trash and Ire update and just stopped playing. Last thing. I miss raiding with my group of friends and having a laugh, I miss those clutch moments when one of us was the hero and got the raid done when most of us were dead. I miss Destiny, because the game that is currently available has none of the mystery or atmosphere that the game had before EoF launched.

  • Why do people always have to enhanced their triumphs. You are indeed an experienced raider, but you have 487 raid clears not 960. Just be honest.

    • This post is so underrated too bad Bungie will likely never do explore mode raids. The inaccessible way the raids are made has always confused me. Maybe just have an easy mode after contest mode is done...

    • Sounds like fun. Why not go back? . Friday Oct 10th is Repopulate D1 Day. Let's go back to the classic tower, pick up some strike playlists bounties, go after strike specific loot, and give fellow Guardians an easy time finding strike teams to do it with. Let's land in classic locations and join fellow Guardians already working on public events and pushing back the taken. Let's return to the Dreadnaught and put in some work on the Court of Oryx. Let's see the REAL Plague Lands and defeat Archons Forge. . D1 is not a perfect game. Its movement is slower, clunkier, and there are no class abilities. It lacks load outs and in game LFGs. . However it DOES have a nonvaulted story and real loot in many locations. . Those interested should check out the Discord server "the last city" to find a LFG group still supporting D1. . Eyes up Guardians. We're going back.

    • Revive tokens and over complicated mechanics killed Destiny for me. D1 hit the sweet spot with mechanics and allowed for some real hero moments to save the run. D2 is basically if some body dies then it's a wipe. Makes the game challenging sure but makes it extremely hard for new players to learn mechanics, especially when your in an lfg team. People don't have the time or patience to carry people through and teach these raids and I completely understand that. Videos helps for teaching core mechanics but it's very different once your in there and under pressure Destiny has always had an elitist mentality but it went to a whole new level in D2, it's not the players or communities fault it's by design, it's actually really tragic that a huge portion of the player base has never stepped foot inside of a raid. If only Bungie had listened to the largest part of their community and not the top echelon players they would have a thriving community and a great game. So sad to see what was a giant of the industry come to this

That all feels pretty accurate… it’s all part of the slow decline overall. It’s been about a decade, so decay, while avoidable, was most likely inevitable… trying to make raids more punishing rather than enjoyable and challenging. You can tell nobody on the (Bungie) team plays the game for fun anymore and are pretty much out of touch. Edited to clarify “team” means Bungie.

        • They don't care about the player base. They make raids complicated so they get more watching hours on day one. Is like new golden status on twitch. They are happy once a year to be on top of twitch.

        • Heard a clan cheat with a Bungie QA employee. The excuse "but they didn't get 1st..." is why some are saying it's okay...is cheating okay now???

          • Wasn't the most played raid RoN? I'm guessing because it was accessible, easier to learn and to complete for the majority of the player base. But the streamers and the basement CHUDs were unhappy as they didn't want all the average players getting loot they felt only they should have.

            • The only people I’ve ever known to think raids aren’t for them are kids like OP who assume they are super difficult and just never try it. You would be amazed how simple it is to learn the game if you actually try playing the game.

Bungies fixation on worlds first races has caused them to build mechanics and puzzles to slow down the best raiders in the world, all for the 15 min of slightly increased twitch views Now a raid that takes Datto,Cross,Gladd 24 hours to beat, isn't going to be approachable by the majority of Destiny players, it's like taking the average driver and forcing them to run a formula 1 race with no training or experience You know what made D1 Raids better, Margin for error, new players had room to fail without hindering the experience of professionals, requiring cold blooded precision and coordination from all 6 players, just creates a toxic environment, and why nobody does these streamer approved raids, Bungie is developing for them alone, compare DSC contest completion numbers, to Salvations Edge and Desert For what they spend on these raids, they could easily make 6 and 3 player activities and strikes/ PvP maps, but that doesn't put content creators on a pedestal and inflate viewership numbers

                  • there needs to be 3 levels to the raids, blueberry, working man, basement dweller in D1 you could over level easy mode, that helped carry and teach new players it's simple if only 10% of players can raid, eventually you'll only 10% of players left

                  • Bit confused on the normal mode thing. Every raid has a normal mode. Desert perpetual is the first one in years to have a hard mode. Disagree on raids being built for PC players; I’m a console player and haven’t had any problems with using a controller in a raid. I do think it’d be great to have an explorer mode or whatever like the dungeons did in rite of the nine.

                      • I miss doing raids and dungeons that’s where I spent most of my time in Destiny 2 chasing after raid weapons making the raid weapons craftable if they ever unvault all raids and dungeons then I will probably come back

                      • Do you think they don't realize it? Or is it that they don't care. If they made raids like we enjoyed for years their raid race wouldn't be worthwhile so I guess they won't be paying such complaints any attention

They stopped being for me when they stopped doing normal mode raids. Edit for clarity - by normal mode I mean the D1 normal mode raids. D2 ‘normal’ mode is more difficult/challenging/less forgiving in comparison.

Just to be fair. I know a sherpa who's already in the middle of his 80s, playing on console with a controller. Apart from that, I know more console players (one can see that on Discord) who raid as on PC. Edit:
Now I’m not an inexperienced raider. I’ve completed 960 raids between the two games, but since the spike in difficulty in most raids, I’ve simply not bothered to learn them.
960. That's a big number. I find that impressive.
My increasing age and slowing twitch is also a consideration along with my health issues which also affect my ability to speak and think quickly.
Personally, for me, in that case, rest would be more worthwhile than stress.
