Now that I’ve recovered a note on the epic raid

I’m expecting to get torn to shreds here but I want to say that this past weekend gave me the day 1 contest raid experience I’ve been longing for. One where the mechanics were 50 percent of the battle. The final boss damage check was difficult, but we spent about 35 percent of the time perfecting mechanics. That’s a lot more than the usual 5 percent on mechanics then 100 tries to get perfect damage on the boss. Furthermore you needed 6 well rounded players. It wasn’t 2 hero’s and 4 ad clearers. It was 6 heroes. Everyone felt important, everyone had to pull their weight. I am not among the Destiny elite, although you could argue I have a teammate that is, however I consider myself an experienced and savvy raider and this raid was for us. There are alot of us. Experienced players that will never be salt or gladd, or sweat. But solid members of the community who know raiding. Took my squad 36 hours (25.5 actively playing) to finish it. And it was exhilarating to get it done. We even had to go back and complete Hobgoblin a second time do to a wipe and kill at the same time which progressed us to next fight but didn’t pop in the triumph page. So after the final boss we slogged back to the hobgoblin and took another hour or so to get that done too. So for all of us that are good raiders but not the 1 percent steaming crowd, that I have nothing against btw, I say thank you. It’s clear this raid was meant to be the epic version and was scaled back to release it as a “regular” version and the boss health tuned way too high. That’s a different convo. If these are the types of raid experiences coming down the pipe that would make my community very happy. Now for the level grinding……. Sheesh another Time for that one too I guess.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you This was easily my favourite contest mode experience since whatever was before Crota. I much prefer contest raids that require a larger emphasis on mechanics than damage. You didn't need to be perfect on damage, but the mechanics were somewhat strict (except for hydra which if you messed up once it was pretty much a wipe every-time) My only issue with this contest (and raid in general) is the fact that the detain in hydra cannot be broken by the person detained.
