Feedback on Open-World Seasonal Activities - A Model for the Future
Hello Bungie Team,
I'm writing to share some feedback about two seasonal activities that, in my opinion, stood out and should serve as a model for the design of future content. I'm specifically referring to the "Contact" event (from Season of Arrivals) and the "Seraph Towers" activity (from Season of the Worthy).
What made these activities so memorable and successful was how they were integrated into the patrol space. Instead of being isolated in a separate node on the map, they took place directly in the patrol zones. This offered several key benefits:
* Immersion and a Living World: The presence of a large-scale public event that happened organically made the world of Destiny 2 feel more dynamic and alive. Seeing other Guardians spontaneously join in to face a threat in a patrol zone created a sense of shared purpose and community.
* Accessibility and Participation: The "public event" nature of these activities encouraged casual participation. Players didn't need to organize a fireteam or load into a new activity. They could simply find the event already in progress and jump in, which increased engagement and made the gameplay loop feel more fluid.
I believe returning to this model of open-world seasonal activities—where the main event happens in patrol zones—would be extremely beneficial for the game. It would not only re-emphasize the value of existing game spaces but also reignite the spirit of community and the feeling that the world of Destiny 2 is an active place that reacts to the events of the story.
Thank you for the hard work you put into Destiny 2.
Sincerely,
A longtime Guardian and fan.
